“The New York judge presiding over Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial on Tuesday issued a gag order after the former president attacked his clerk by name and shared her image on social media,” The Messenger reports.

One of them is assaulted? Then charge Trump with assault, if one is murdered (Zeus forbid) charge and convict him of murder. A judge, along with Trump's own lawyers you'd think, needs to make that very clear to him.

The sooner this threat to democracy is taken off the streets, and you'd think that would have happened already like it would have for any other citizen issuing multiple threats to the judiciary, then the safer all Americans will be.

I am totally in favor. However, what about his own safety? I think, if he's not going to put him in jail this time, he should just go straight to, "Do it again and I'll put you in jail."

Trump is dangerous because he can inspire nut jobs to violence. Putting him in pretrial detention is justified. I don't care about civil vs. criminal issues. Contempt of court is contempt of court. At least put him there until he voices some compliance language.

The judges are bending over backwards to avoid any appearance of prejudgment. What about the People's rights? Judge Chutkan should have him taken into custody on the 16th, and then let his lawyers try to get him out.

Did he buy the gun, or didn't he? There is enough time to investigate that.

You know, his campaign comment about being able to shoot someone on Fifth Avenue is true. Nothing of consequence is happening to him over these threats. He needs a taste of jail life to inspire him to flee the country.

Apologies if I'm misinterpreting, but I took this to imply that you might see Trump leaving the U.S. as a desirable thing. I don't see it that way. I want him here to stand trial on all of the indictments he's facing.

He's committed a large number of very serious crimes, including trying to overturn the U.S. government and destroy our democracy (which, flawed though it may be, is still precious and worthy of preservation). He needs to answer for all of that, not excape justice and scamper merrily away. This man has gotten away with far too much for far too long, and we are finally on the edge of seeing him face the consequences. When that happens, it's going to be glorious, and I don't want anything to get in the way of it!

It would be the best thing for the country. As it is, unless he drops dead, we are in for years and years of Trump this and Trump that. I am sick to death of Trump, GOP, and all the rat weasels that revealed themselves.

I don't think that a life on the run is all that pleasant.

If he does get sent to jail, nothing less than SuperMax will be good enough. I'd rather see him constantly dodging authorities and having to move around than to see him on home arrest or some piddling country club jail, because he is an ex president. Our country would be a lot safer without him here. If he gets sentenced to home confinement, it won't be enough to dissuade him from his power ploys with the press.

He's not done with that Judge. He still thinks that he can win by twisting the plot. So, yeah, I'd like him to flee the country and get convicted of everything in absentia.

as long as he's punished.

I guess if he hadn't cheated his way to the top, he wouldn't have as much, but he could have lived a successful life. He could have been that beloved icon. Instead, he has thrown the rest of his and his adult kids lives away. I don't think he's capable of anything else. If he wanted to change, I don't even know how he would start.

I don't long for money, but if I had money like that, I would use it for food, clothing and shelter for others. And toys for kids. Throw some into medical research, and then go play! Get what you need or want, but don't be such an evil dick. People make mistakes, but you couldn't say that someone like Hitler just made a mistake. Trump has shown that he would like to be a dictator. We have to keep him from getting back into government. So, if he won't flee, then jail.

I also hear what you say. We both agree that he deserves punishment.

Jack Smith has already requested a gag order from Judge Chutkan.

It will be decided on Oct 16.

They can cite his actions in the NY civil court case as further evidence of what he will do.

I expect Judge Chutkan to respond with a gag order of her own. It might even happen sooner than Oct 16 because of these actions accelerating possible responses.

I'm not sure what defense Dumpster's lawyers can offer now in their claims because he has already shown an aptitude to post whatever he wants and threaten whomever he wants.

This gag order will establish a lot of legal precedent in federal court.
