and I think we could be safe with much less military spending. But, having said that: It's a hard cruel world with lots of bad guys out there.

The Republicans, single-handedly, have seriously damaged the security of the country. Tommy Tuberville has declared war on the officer corp with his holds just to get his 15 minutes of camera time. That action creates a certain amount of chaos in the system because there can be doubt as to who has what kind of authority. It also really undermines military families. I am absolutely sure that Trump has put General Milley and his family in mortal danger. And now the Congress is more or less paralyzed because the small Repug majority in the House has become completely dysfunctional. Today they fired the Speaker for the crime of keeping the government alive for another 45 days. The first time ever a Speaker went down in a vote of no confidence. What kind of effect do you think constant threats to the paychecks of government employees, civilian and military, has on morale? It isn't good. A demoralized military is bad on many levels.

Security wise we are at a low point. What better time for China to invade Taiwan? Xi has serious problems of his own, and there is nothing like a good old fashion war to recover lost lands to rally the people and make them forget that their economy is crashing hard. They can't do it from a cold start, so we will see them preparing. That will give us time to dither trying to get our act together. Before the President can do anything, he must have the Congress sign off. Yeah, right? When we do put the contingency plans into action, the system could be sluggish because some of the wrong people are in the wrong pigeon hole. Speed will be of the essence. Good luck on that.

At least if it comes to an invasion of Taiwan, we will know who to blame. Not that that is going to make any difference. The idiots could blunder us right into a real disaster.

End of rant.
