"Trump is...an indicted criminal defendant, and he must stand trial...under the same procedures that govern all other criminal defendants. That is what the rule of law means."

(3,783 posts)There has to come a time when people become courageous, when suddenly many realize that it is OK to be called out by the stupidity of donald trump, that it doesn't matter what he says, and that it is more important to make the SOB accountable for his crimes than anything else in the world, that sending the SOB straight to jail is the right thing. People forget very easy, and trump, once in jail, will be just a bad memory and nothing else. When he is in jail no one will be hearing from that thug, and people will forget about him, many realizing what a disgrace and an embarrassment to the country and the world he was.
Before trump, most people had forgotten about Benedict Arnold, and the only reason he came up is because now we had another traitor, so it was time to talk about American traitors, in time both will be forgotten.
I am a strong believer that the thug will not win the presidency, and that is when republicans will begin to abandon him completely, so lets make sure everyone votes, lets get the thugs out of office, and not allow the biggest thug of all to become president. We will win this one.

(2,800 posts)to put their lives on the line to defend the country. We have seen over the last couple of years that very many politicians and those in the judicial system, those who are not outright aligned with Trump, have been slow to answer the call to stand for democracy. If our elite class will not stand solidly against authoritarianism it will be to their eternal shame.

See Order at 3. Mr. Trump is free to make statements criticizing the current administration, the Department of Justice, and the Special Counsel, as well as statements that this prosecution is politically motivated or that he is innocent of the charges against him. See id.
We do not allow such an order lightly. Mr. Trump is a former President and current candidate for the presidency, and there is a strong public interest in what he has to say. ..."
That means that they have have loosened certain restrictions of the gag order.

If the judicial apparatus was truly "blind", it would not matter whatsoever that Trump is a former president and current candidate. Nothing in the constitution says that these are exceptions to the rule of law.

(40,426 posts)ordinarily made. Except when it came to Bush v Gore. Back THEN the "strong public interest" was irrelevant.
SCOTUS should never be allowed to assume what's in the public's interests, since the public has held SCOTUS in low esteem about its interests for DECADES.
The public who voted Trump out of office KNOW that SCOTUS is ridiculous to say that there is a strong public interest in what he has to say.

He's never had to face any real consequences before. He's going to be fun to watch.

(4,128 posts)... headlines not dominated by TFG's antics. No pics of him in/leaving a courthouse, no smirking pics of Stefanik, no coke head shot of Jr. and more. Ah, that would be great!

(14,044 posts)Saw an octogenerian wearing a t-shirt yesterday while waiting in line at Publix, proclaiming "Free Trump!" in big, bold letters, with Trump's image below and a gag across his mouth. They're probably selling these at the Trump Official Campaign Store.
Trump is daring judges to enforce these gag orders, knowing full well his poll numbers will go up if anything is done to stop him.

(2,926 posts)and demand our judicial system get it's shit together and quit letting this POS push everyone around. I have yet to see or be convinced where any special legal privilege should be afforded a person just because they are running for president, or any office for that matter. To me this whole fiasco sets very dangerous legal precedence by allowing criminals to try and dodge a full and fair (to the state/people especially) prosecution simply by running for ANY office. If the courts determine just running for president offers additional protections of accused individuals than accused individuals running for other offices or regular citizens, all aspects of equal under the law are thrown out the window.
Plus, this right here is what makes our allies around the world nervous as shit and perceived by our enemies, justly, as a weak democratic laughing stock IMO.
We need to demand fair and equal under the law for all.
