Imagine . . .

Imagine a criminal trial of, say, a major mob boss on racketeering charges. The trial takes place in a well-to-do jurisdiction, and the jurors are mostly professionals or mid-to-upper corporate management types. Now imaging that of those 12 jurors, 4 of them have their high-paying jobs as a result of the defendant having pulled strings to get them hired, and the spouse of a 5th juror had worked for an associate of the defendant for his part in the very same illegal conduct.

There isn't a courtroom in the country where those jurors would be permitted to remain on the jury. And yet, we are expected to believe that out of 9 justices, three who owe their jobs to Trump and a fourth whose spouse was at least an active participant in the very same scheme, are capable of being fair and impartial as they sit in judgment of the case. That's how blatantly corrupt all of this is!

We can't just insist all the ones appointed by Donnie refuse themselves. Imagine a Republican wins, then indicts the democrat, and all the democratic justices have to recuse themselves?

Maybe some kind of independent tribunal could be made to work. But it would have to bar appeals to the Supreme Court, which has its own problems.

Best is to not let criminals take the presidency, but apparently that's easier said than done...

2. So true. One can't help but believe the SCOTUS 6, at least the 5 male justices...

seem to be leading us blithely down the garden path to an authoritarian government led by trump in which they intend to play a big part.

Thomas' failure to recuse himself and Alito's questions which seem to excuse trump's actions on J6 are obvious indications that they have little regard for the universal and required democratic concept of "no one is above the law."

The maga ts have gotten away with packing the court with backward-facing troglodytes, they seem mission-driven and openly confident that they will delay the slow turn of the wheels of justice enough that SC Smith's J6 trial will not happen before the Nov. election.

And who knows whateve else is planned to shift the election rightward.
