Service dogs do not bite people.

According to the article, it has not been confirmed that the dog that bit two people is a real service dog. I doubt it. It's easy to get a phony certificate and a phony vest for a few dollars. Also, the dog is a Belgian Malinois, which seems a bad choice to be a service dog. Anyway, I hope there is a big, fat lawsuit that stimulates more action to curtail the phony service dog trend.

And Belgian Malinois dogs are commonly trained as sesrvice dogs. https://themalinoisfoundation.org/ But it's also true that some people have fake service animals, sometimes really absurd ones, like snakes. They call them "emotional support" animals, which is a fancy name for pet, but a lot of them shouldn't be brought on airplanes.

Service dogs won't bite without provocation, but they'll bite defensively, like any animal.

Emotional support animals are not just pets; they serve a different function than service animals (more frequently related to mental health). Depending on the state, they require the certification of a mental health specialist.

12. That's actually a fairly cuddly gator ... sad story.

I just read about this the other day. Much more at this NPR article. Seems like the owner is a good guy. According to the animal control folks, the chances of getting him back are 'slim to none'. Animal Control didn't abuse him, but I wonder about his ability to survive in the wild. I feel sorry for Mr Henney.

In ordinary times, the social media accounts devoted to Wally Gator document the nearly six-foot-long emotional support alligator's adventures around Pennsylvania: visiting nursing homes, splashing around in Philadelphia's Love Park fountain, meeting with the mayor and smiling contentedly in his red harness as various admirers hug and hold him.

[snip]

Henney and Wally were visiting friends in Brunswick when someone took the gator from his pen in the early morning hours of April 21, the Wallygator Facebook page posted on Saturday.

"Wally was stolen by some jerk who likes to drop alligators off into someone's yard to terrorize them," the account posted the following day. "Once discovered they called [Department of Natural Resources], DNR then called a trapper. The trapper came and got Wally and dropped him off in a swamp with about 20 other alligators that same day."

6. Says Bella is a service dog in training

Hmm . . . my Maltese is a trained certified emotional support animal for my husband - he can sniff out a PTSD panic.

He also visits Veterans Homes and children's hospitals as a comfort animal.

If its not a known "Velcro Breed" is it really an ESD?

I don't know enough about Bella's human she is being trained for to make a decision. I do know a neighbor was sexually assaulted and has a German Shepherd as a trained support animal. We don't know what the concern is for the human to have a Belgian Malonois to judge. As my Uncle Ruckus has gotten older - the past two years . . . if he's out walking only with me and doesn't like the looks of you - he will bare his teeth. That's happening as my Ankylosing is beginning to win the war in my body. I'm not as strong as I used to be when he was a little guy.

u can put any mutt in a vest labeled that, and u have to b treated like it’s a real service dog.
this is a huge pet peeve of mine. if 1 of these stupid mutts attacks a real service dog, that dog is ruined.
any dog is a different dog after an attack. forever.
but all that goes into a service dog, and it’s gone in a second? throw those ppl under the jail.

we rly need harsh penalties for this bullshit. my dog is a retired therapy dog. i cd have take him anywhere, wearing his little bandana, and no 1 wd question. but if i had been caught doing that, he and i wd both b done.

i think they need to loosen the rules about questioning these owners. rn, the only thing u can ask is- what does this dog do for u? i had a little id card w biff’s picture on it that i had to wear on duty.
i see no problem w requiring an id, showing the dog has been tested and passed.

For my husband - and carry our documents with us.

First - he's a member of our family.

Second - we put several thousand dollars into training him to act on his empathy. Maltese are known for their empathy.

20. The airline employee was bitten on the lip & face. Think about that if defending the dog...

“According to DPHE, the airline employee was bitten on the lip/face and the waiting passenger was bitten on the forearm.”

That’s a bunch of plastic surgery right there, with potential permanent scarring & distortion of the lip.

An ad for the fake emotional support animals popped up on a news feed. Now you can drag little Foo Foo all over and she can bite people to her heart's delight. Of course, if the authorities catch you, you might go to jail and Foo Foo gets sent away. Well, probably not until Foo Foo bites somebody. Then the Foo Foo doo doo hits the fan.
