A joint session of Congress began about 1 p.m. Jan. 6 to certify the Electoral College votes of the 2020 presidential election as the horde of rioters began to gather outside. By about 2 p.m., rioters had crossed over barriers and were forcing their way into the Capitol by breaking windows and attacking officers, according to a statement of facts in Cooks federal court case.
