If we assume that:

(1) the shooter had purchased his weapons legally, can we question whether or not semi-automatic guns ought to be legal? These are not sport weapons. Their only purpose is to shoot a target with the intent to kill. If they are made illegal, it may very well be more difficult for someone to purchase them and therefore, less likely that mass murders will be committed.
(2) the shooter had purchased his weapons illegally, can we question whether or not our laws are strong enough to prevent such purchases? The laws already on the books need to be properly and vigorously enforced and strengthened if necessary to ensure that these purchases are eliminated.
