here we go
Former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee attributed todays deadly massacre in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut to the lack of God and religion in public schools.
Addressing the tragedy on Fox News, Huckabee dismissed calls for stricter gun control and claimed that future violence can be prevented by solving matters of the heart and turning to God:
HUCKABEE: Ultimately, you can take away every gun in America and somebody will use a bomb. When somebody has an intent to do incredible damage, theyre going to find a way to do it
People will want to pass new laws, but unless you change peoples hearts, theyre our transition to the pastor side. This is a heart issue, its not something, laws dont change this kind of thing.
CAVUTO: You know, inevitably people ask after tragedies like this, how could God let this happen?
HUCKABEE: Well, you know, its an interesting thing. We ask why there is violence in our schools, but weve systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage because weve made it a palce where we dont want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability? That were not just going to have to be accountable to the police, if they catch us. But one day, we will stand before a Holy God in judgment. If we dont believe that, then we dont fear that.

Most Christian sects argue you make daily choices of what is right and wrong. Not sure what Bible he grew up learning.

(14,061 posts)And somehow, to imply that God "allowed this to happen" out of spite, as Huckabee does...there are just no words.
I don't know about you, but I really don't want to hear any more religious bullshit right now.

(108,474 posts)That douchebag Huckabee granted clemency to Maurice Clemmons who ended up killing 4 police officers in Lakewood Washington. Huckabee granted this in part because he believed Clemmons had found Jesus.

(42,005 posts)I'd LOVE it if schools talked about what it means to be human, about the mystery of life and how we want to know what happens when we die, and how fragile we are and how much we need one another. Pesonally I have no problem with the Christian pov being brought up as one way people deal with these things...but that's not what he's talking about. He's simplistic and obstructionist, and he's really doing this to get support for his ambitions, imo.
