On GPS this week: Despite wars, economic crises, and freak weather events, we should still be positive about the progress the world is making, argues Bill Gates in a wide-ranging interview on global disease, education, technology and more.
"Innovation has been underestimated today more than any time in history, says Gates. I mean, we had the Internet bubble, where it was actually briefly overestimated. That was kind of uncomfortable, I think. But it's strange to be in such a funk because people look at political roadblocks and some of them, the way these numbers measure things, they arent getting a sense of the progress in the rich world and in the developing world.
Then, Fareed speaks with the only man to win an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy, and a Nobel Prize: Al Gore . The former U.S. vice president talks gun control, U.S. politics and climate change
And in What in the World: Why a major African country found itself with only $217 in its government bank account.
Up w/Chris Hayes
The Hagel hearings, the new GOP, Stiglitz on inequality
On Sundays Up w/ Chris Hayes, well discuss the demagoguery and bullying on display at the confirmation hearing for former Sen. Then well examine whether theres been a genuine shift within the Republican establishment since the presidential election on issues like immigration reform, and what that portends for Washingtons ability to function in President Obamas second term. And finally, well examine the state of the economic recovery an issue that has been oddly and frustratingly absent from our national political discourse. (14,128 posts)Rather wait for President Obama's Super Bowl interview, and Chris Hayes can keep his Obama bashfest show. His hyperactive self need to show more respect SOS Kerry before spouting off vile tweet that make him and his followers look clever, but hateful and ignorant.
Washington Watch is more informative and about substance.
