http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/28/damn-i-just-want-some-jam/2/He wants to force people on food stamps to shop at government run stores that only sell products in plain boxes, submit to drug, alcohol and tobacco testing every month, and revoke voting "privileges" to people on food stamps.
From the article:
There should be humiliation and pain in government assistance. Every time someone accepts food stamps, they are spitting on the principles of independence, and they, not the taxpayers who fund the program, should be reminded of that fact.

I feel terribly sorry that you feel so much hatred for the ones whom Jesus loved best. Try and find one good word spoken for the rich. You won't find it.
I will probably get a grenade emailed to me.

(12,041 posts)Because we ALL accept aid from the government, government aid is about more than foodstamps, it is about the roads we drive on, the schools we have attended, the municipal water we drink, the subsidized foods that we eat, it is about many things. Anyone who says they don't accept aid from the government is either ignorant or a liar.

(8,933 posts)It's already bad enough as it is. First you have to endure humiliation to try to get assistance and have them question why you don't sell 5 shares in walmart that you don't even have the papers to that if you sold them would get you about $30. Yep. That would really fix my problems, thanks.
Then you go through it when you try to go to use it at the store and everyone and anyone thinks that they have the right to scrutinize and question any purchases you have. There are plenty out there that think you shouldn't be allowed to buy name brand anything or have anything but the bare basics if you are on assistance. On top of that you (at least here) have to work it off.
When my husband and I were both unemployed and getting help (there is a max of 5 years over your life for cash assistance) you have to prove that you are looking for a job. And we both had to look. They didn't care that I had a young kid and a minimum wage job would cost more than I would make with traveling and daycare. And then you had to work it off. We didn't end up having to do that, but they do. So on top of having to work it off and prove that you are trying to get a job you get the privilege of being fodder for everyone else in the store.
I am glad I am not on assistance anymore. We did have family health plus and our kids are on child health plus and get reduced lunches, but the thought of having to endure that just freaks me out. My hubby said that he was going to apply for food stamps since our health insurance brings our income down to $30k a year. No thanks.

(15,814 posts)that there is already considerable shame, humiliation, and degradation built into "helping" programs.
Isn't there a name for those who take pleasure in the pain of others?

(13,198 posts)Republican attitudes are extremely blind to very simple, obvious notions. Republicans don't seem to realize that the vast majority of people on some form of public aid probably are fairly ashamed of it and would rather not be on it. Duh. If Republicans would just think for a change the world would be a better place. But they won't. They live in an angry fantasy. That is why their point of view is dying.

(12,151 posts)Let's really take this logic out and look at it. Let's come to grips with the fact that humiliation and degradation are what these folks are really about. Not freedom. Not "god." Not fiscal responsibility. Just spitting on anyone who has the temerity to have not benefitted as much from our mutual societal cooperation as they have.
Let's take all the masks off. There are people in this country who are utterly contemptuous of the very idea that civilization means working together for the common good. The idea of returning any of the benefit bestowed on them by the social contract to anyone else offends their three-year-old's sense of utter entitlement. They want it all.
Let's talk about that.
Jesus.

(19,053 posts)Exceptionalism. This is a defining feature of the rw. I truly believe that there is a pathology to them more than that they are just simply hypocrites.
Its not that they are unaware of their dual standards for them and for everyone not them, they really are. Honestly, if you have enough discussions with them, in an attempt to not seem like a hypocrite, they will absolutely and unapologetically tell you that they are deserving of this and that and that others are not. Then they will go on to demonize this group and that group under the banner of "stupid stereotypes r us".
This is really scary stuff, imo.

(12,272 posts)Pain and humiliation are cruel but effective tools to change behavior. That people who are on assistance want to be that way is a right-wing idea. Not only is his proposal cruel it is stupid.

And there will be many more if the government sets up competition and compels people to shop there.
