Sure I do.
I laughed my ass off.
I feel sorry for the poor crane operator.
Must see video!

You dropped this back in 09' and then you went all BBI (great track) in 10'. You having selective memory with me or what!

It seems you're confusing me with someone else.

(45,570 posts)Today on one of my jobs, they installed three 50,000 underground storage tanks. One mistake with the cranes and a lot of jobs and cash would be on hold. Hardly a laughing matter.

(146,341 posts)The post is simply toxic and irresponsible, IMO. I consider it to be goading people, and don't like it one bit. However, I know that there's no recourse for this kind of crap.

(135,425 posts)I winced. It's just a static display, it can be patched up, but still....

(73,631 posts)Many times, such planes are chosen because of their significant historical importance.
Static display is a badge of honor in service to our country.
There's nothing funny about that incident at all.

(18,630 posts)But it just couldn't stop the Vietnamese from taking over Vietnam but it helped to delay that outcome.
So the plane deserves a whole lot of honoring.
Perhaps it could be placed on a pedastal in front of the Pentagon as a reminder of wars conducted for democracy and the American way .... along with other military aircraft used in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and a nice drone used in Pakistan.

(73,631 posts)The Cold War was happening in a lot of different places and such jets were deployed in other places around the world as well.
I'm not going to assume to compare the geo-politics of today against what they were then
The mere fact that Vietnam was war that shouldn't have been waged by the politicians of this country does not vacate the honor of service in that time.
Better Believe It
(18,630 posts)And that warplane did not serve me nor the interests of the American people in Vietnam.
Warplanes are not persons, to be honored for their "service" anymore than corporations are persons.
It one can honor a warplane I suppose we can also honor a gun, a knife or container of napalm used in warfare.
And why not?
Johnny Rico
(1,438 posts)Now I'll grant you I couldn't find a commemorative container of napalm...
Better Believe It
(18,630 posts)I assume if you could find a commenorative container of napalm you would also be honoring it.

Not much of a market for it. Go figure.

(1,438 posts)given my age. In retrospect, I do think opposing the Soviet Union and its satellite countries was proper during the Cold War.
As for Afghanistan, I support the policies of our President in this regard.
In any case, I certainly support our troops who have fought in all of our conflicts. One ancillary way that we do this is to showcase the equipment used in these wars in monuments and museums, which brings us back to your OP.
Which is why seeing an A-4 strike aircraft being destroyed isn't particularly funny.
And by the by, the jet is this video is a Navy strike aircraft, not an Air Force fighter.
Better Believe It
(18,630 posts)And you think that North Vietnam was a "satellite" nation run by the Soviet Union?
If you believe that old lying cold war propaganda directed against Vietnamese independence fighters, you really need to read some serious material written by progressives and not just "ant-communist cold warriors" on the subject.
Johnny Rico

(18,630 posts)Oh that's so nice to know.
So how many Vietnamese were burned to death in napalmed villages as a result of this warplanes "good weapons delivery systems"?
I bet more than a few Vietnamese who were attacked by this plane would really enjoy the video.
You think they might laugh a bit?

I guess in 40 years, someone will complain when a non-functioning, wholly symbolic piece of an American bunker-buster or white phosphorus grenade is "damaged" and may no longer be "appreciated"

(5,290 posts)The plane weighs close to 30,000 lb. That crane was not sufficient for the job and rigged completely wrong. I'm sure someone lost their job over this one...
