Is Rush Reduced to Public Service Announcements?

A twitter post by Thinkprogress states that "many of the ads on Rush Limbaugh's show today are free public service ads from AdCouncil."



Krystall Ball, MSNBC contributor, is also tweeting that "overwhelming majority of ads on Limbaugh's show today are free public service announcements."

MediaMatters reports today that at least 45 advertisers have "dropped their ads from Rush Limbaugh's radio show in the wake of his misogynistic attacks on Sandra Fluke." ThinkProgress has the count of advertisers dumping Rush at 43.

Stations can continue to carry that vile human being at a loss for a little while, knowing that his time slot will become profitable once again when the advertisers think it's safe to return. It's happened in the past; I wonder if it will happen again?

And while in the past it's been difficult for folks to sustain a watchdog effort, it's far easier to stir up the critical mass requisite to get advertisers' attention. The current state of affairs will almost certainly die down, but committed people will be able to keep after it and bring attention to the issue again on very short notice.

If stations keep losing money because they're carrying that vile human being's show, their Free Market choice will get narrowed down to "drop him" before too very long.
