Greta To Netanyahu: How Is War With Iran Not Inevitable?

Great, now it's inevitable. Guess that cuts through all that messy debate nonsense.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got more than 16 minutes of saber-rattling, fear mongering and war mongering against Iran last night on On The Record. Host Greta Van Susteren didn’t come right out and advocate for war (the way many of her Fox News colleagues do) but she did very little to challenge Netanyahu’s position.

<...>

Oh, no this is not like Iraq, Netanyahu insisted. “We didn’t know (in Iraq)… in the case of Iran, there is absolutely no (doubt).”

Of course, that’s not what was said in the run up to the Iraq war. If you ask me, this is just like it.

and I realize that it's FauxSnooze--but I'm hearing it everywhere--is that everyone is talking about an Iran war is a fait accompli and the only discussion is when we start bombing. :banghead.

To quote an idiot: Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Indeed.

it could win that war without using nuclear weapons. Is that what they plan to do?

5. I think they could, but it may take US and international help.

Iran's air force and army are something of a shambles as a result of years of arms embargoes. Their air force has the F-16s we sold (gave?) the Shah, but spare parts are almost nonexistent, and some of them are not combat-worthy because of it. Same with their army; their war with Saddam depleted much of their equipment, and they haven't succeeded in fully rebuilding it. Since the two countries don't share a border, it would be very much a war of missiles and bombers, and Israel has a huge advantage there, both offensively and defensively, thanks to American aid. This isn't to say it would be cheap, and Iran could still inflict serious pain on Israel, but I think they would still come out the loser, particularly with American intervention, which would be almost certain, given our treaty obligations and our political connection and sentiments.

7. Iran cannot come out the loser, simply because in a war like that, where occupation

and/or regime change in Iran is simply not feasible with or without American help, the loser
is the one who suffers bigger disruption to his way of life, his institutions, his public morale
and his standing in the world. And that will be Isreal without a doubt. Surely, they will kill
more Iranians than suffer their own casualties by an order of magnitude at least, but
casualty figures will be totally irrelevant in judging that war's outcome. Israel as we know
it simply will no longer exist after that war. It may not be wiped literally off the map, as
Iranians threaten, but in most important ways it may as well will have been.
