I know weather and climate change aren't the same, but when you have three 80-degree days in March in Chicago, something is definitely up. At the store, I overheard two different groups talking about turning on the AC. In March?!?!?
So, where do you live and any odd weather to report?

(42,290 posts)We have redwing blackbirds and robins already, in mid-March. And we had outside flies COVERING our house last weekend.
Unprecedented.

(10,749 posts)Couldn't believe it. A fly. In NH. In March.
And spousal unit asked me to put some screens back in so she could open the windows without the cats attempting flight.

(31,464 posts)The ski slopes in New England are already shutting down, after most of them never fully opened this winter. I never took out a real winter coat, just been wearing hoodies and t-shirts all season. Except for the crazy October storm, which we still see the effects of (downed trees and destruction), we've had no winter to speak of.

(42,290 posts)I had never heard of this before in my life and I've spent 3/4 of my life there.

(9,988 posts)And it shouldn't be. THis is freaky. It's supposed to be like this well into next week too.
The last time we had 70s this early was in '95 when we had that heat wave that killed hundreds of people. And we didn't have 80s!

(154,021 posts)predicted by the science. We call them more extreme WEATHER.
These also include MORE forest fires like Russia had last summer.
Remember the tornado clusters really early in the season?
Fact is that water temps, and atmospheric means are going up. It is also a fact that this is happening and it is connected with more CO2 in the atmosphere.
As I get no longer tired of saying it. ONE cold winter that is weather. One Freak Hail Storm, that is weather. A series of them, we start calling that a pattern. And they are predicted to be more frequent, not less.
And the pattern is predicted by more energy in the atmosphere. Oh and there is more, the melting of ice is already (very slowly) rising oceans. We will start to see it beyond a shadow, at current trends, by 2050... to be honest, a few scientists think before that, but let's keep to the conservative 2050 date, for the moment.

And just for fun under here is Newport beach CA and expected flood patterns
I am no longer surprised to see people on DU questioning this either. For the record, the ones I feel sorry for are my nephews and my nieces. I won't live to see that... at least I don't think so. They will.

freaky man, cause the dogwoods have started blooming, the daffodils are in full bloom, streams are rising and we expect another inch of rain over the next few days. we're running about 5 degrees cooler than usual too.

(199 posts)The warmth does feel great, but I know its going to cause more problems in the long run. Tornado yesterday came a quarter mile from my house and I know one family that came out of their basement to find a good chunk of their house gone. I'd rather not have more of that. Spent the day picking up glass out of another friends yard.

(3,427 posts)No global warming here. It's been colder and wetter than normal this month.
But three 80-degree days this month in Chicago is definitely exceptional. Before this year, there were only ten 80-degree days in March in over 100 years of record-keeping!

(154,021 posts)I am sure you have seen your share of strange, and energetic weather events. Why the term global warming is so damn wrong, and climate change is more accurate.

(4,987 posts)Here in Seattle area it has been a cold & soggy & windy winter. 5 months lost for
playing golf. Today was the first time it hit 60 since November.
Also, did'nt hundreds of people died in Europe this winter due to brutal cold weather?
The weather pattern is all screwed up. Some countries are warmer, others are colder.

(1,721 posts)T friends and family that vacation on tropical islands or warm beaches, I smile and tell them how excited I am for them. Secretly, I think their warm vacation sounds horrible. I love snow.
I have a feeling that it's going to be long, miserable Summer, and I didn't even get a Winter to relish in. This is hell.
Oh, and I have the biggest ants nest in the front yard. We need rain.

(34,139 posts)And we had the mildest winter I've ever seen here. Only two very mild cold periods and much of the winter was warm enough to have the windows open.
I've had the AC on at night the last few nights just to lower the humidity enough to sleep. During the day though the temperatures get to the low 80s the humidity is low enough it's not bad, but at night when it drops to the upper 60s the humidity gets to 80-90% and it's really sticky.
Last winter was one of the coldest on record for this area, while the summer before was one of the hottest on record. Fortunately last summer was not too bad but now I'm worried about what this summer will be like. Hot? Mild? Dry? Lots of storms?

(16,206 posts)St. Petersburg to be exact and it's been too dry. We haven't had any measurable rainfall for over two months and it's a little early to be 87 degrees as it has been.
Seems the wet has stopped to the north of us, Citrus county and to the east of us in Orange county.

(2,323 posts)It normally doesn't start blooming until mid April early May. It started blooming in December and hasn't stopped.
I haven't had to use my electric blanket all winter. (I don't run the heat in my apt., so by evening I use the blanket to keep warm at night.)
My cats didn't grow a winter coat.
