"He is my son. I have two girls and a boy," Obama said with a smile.
Bo is "a very sweet dog," the first lady said, adding: "I'm not being biased. He is really a good dog, he's very well-mannered, he's very even-tempered." And, she said, he has "a very busy schedule ... we're thinking about getting him an agent."
The first lady said that her daughters and "a number of people" are willing to take Bo out when he needs to. "He usually will tell you. He doesn't talk, but he will come up and put his paw on your leg and kind of nudges you," she said. "And then you're like, what do you want? And then gets excited. And you say, you want to go out? And then he starts barking. He's very smart."

(36,974 posts)Other than that all is okay here.
I haven't watched the weather news today but I heard that there was a tornado in the San Antonio area.

A non-allergenic breed. Single layer coat.

(6,843 posts)All dogs produce dander, single layer coat or not. There are less allergic, but not hypoallergenic.

(14,881 posts)and you will not find a Portuguese Water Dog in a puppy mill. Bichone Frise's are very small, white French dogs. Very smart, very cute with a single curly coat.
PWD's are elite dogs, and I mean that seriously. Try to buy one in the US. Good luck. it's not that they're that much more expensive than other well bred dogs. It's just that you have to be approved by the breeders before they will allow you to adopt one of their puppies, and the requirements to be approved tend to be designed to exclude run of the mill, 99%ers.
The good side of their restrictions is that the majority of the breeders (if not all) will take back a puppy if it turns out not to be a good fit. That is how the Obama's ended up with Bo. Bo's first people had gotten him in part as a companion to an elderly PWD who'd recently lost her elderly PWD companion. Bo's high energy puppyhood turned out to be very stressful for her, so he was returned to the breeder before it became an issue. Ted Kennedy was personal friends with the breeder and apparently the timing was such that Bo was a fit with the Obamas.

(8,571 posts)I'm sure there are a few Romney's out there that think it's the normal thing to do and would find themselves on the other side of the bet.

(3,186 posts)Anyone who thinks of their pets as their 'kids' are kinded spirits to animal lovers everywhere. Mine definately have taken on that role, especially now that my human child has grown and left the nest.
Just one more of the hundreds of reasons to love Michelle in my book.

If one gets into trouble (like chewing up a paper towel or something), it will usually be, "Look what your daughter did..."

(45,319 posts)The contrast in treatment with the Romney dogs is suddenly useful politics as well. I want a water dog. Our cat really doesn't want one. I do.

(14,157 posts)Dogs are smart. Cats are stupid. Most dogs will let you know they have to go. Cats will just go hide somewhere and piss and poop. That's why you have to put a litter box inside the home for them.

(8,582 posts)They are just independent. They don't need you to hold their paw while they take a piss.

(25,415 posts)They are very intelligent animals. They just don't want to trained. My cat Daisy does come when I call her but she will not do any tricks. Which is just fine with me.
Life Long Dem
(8,582 posts)My two cats come when I call them. One of them is always looking for something to eat, and he'll come up to me and start nudging me telling me he wants something. Mostly it's his food bowl getting low. Not empty, but low enough where there is the dried crumbled up cat food on the bottom. But that's empty to my cats. The other one Rex just lets Poky do all the work when they want something.
magical thyme
(14,881 posts)they refuse to go outside in the rain or snow, like silly dogs do.
It's not that they are stupid. It's that they are too smart for their own good. I know someone who taught her cat to use a toilet. I'm not sure if she taught it to flush, though.
