A ton of articles about Rick Santorum and Opus Dei here:

Found some very in depth articles about the Santorum Opus Dei connection here:

"What we are seeing today in the fight over birth control is a revival of a very old, and very dangerous kind of Catholicism. It is not one supported or practiced by most Rank and File Catholics.

Opus Dei is also becoming famous for it's either association, or membership (so far denied,) of political figure Rick Santorum.

It is a kind of Catholicism which has done irreparable harm. It is a kind of Catholicism unfit for existence in the modern world.

It was the underpinning of the regimes of Mussolini in Italy, The National Catholicism of Francisco Franco, in Spain; The Parti Rexiste in Belgium; The Irish Blueshirts; The Croatian Ustaše, the Nazi puppet government in Croatia, and ultimately, was the kind of Catholicism practiced by the Sainted Josemaría Escrivá, founder of the Catholic order Opus Dei."

As a Catholic, I thought the writing was excellent, and would have liked to thank the author on the blogspot's comment page, but couldn't sign up to do so.

Mae Brussell did a lot of investigative work on the Opus Dei links to P-2 (Propaganda Due), the fascist masonic lodge in Italy.

'Saint' Escriva's connections, to Franco in the '50's, point to 'the rat-line', which was the nazi underground rail-road out of Europe and away from war crimes prosecutions, post-WWII.

And thanks for the Frank Ryan info. I was just listening to the Pogues song that mentions him yesterday, titled 'The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn'. This is the first time I ever heard who he was.

Funny how these 'holy religious' politicos like Santorum lie all the time. They can NEVER tell the truth, to advance their holy cause.

It seems to me that, if they're so sure they are right and moral, they ought to be able to tell the truth at least once, while on the campaign trail.

5. This is marvelous! I was just telling my husband yesterday

that I think you could draw a line from Santorum/Gingrich/ Scalea right back through the Contras and Oliver North to the Vatican Ratline.

Ratline is a reference to the rope that runs to the crow's mast on a ship - the last way out when the ship is going down.

I'm reading "Unholy Trinity" by Aarons and Loftus, and they show some pretty wild connections between the Vatican and our intelligence agencies. The real kicker is that the Soviet Union infiltrated most of these groups from the word go! Even Dick Nixon was involved, which may be what he was so afraid would come out back in 1972!

Opus Dei was tied to the overthrow of Allende. Opus Dei operatives permeated the governments of Franco and Pinochet!

BTW - this type of Catholic believes any evil is justifies in order to preserve their version of Holy Mother Church! Lying, murder, torture; if it's for the greater good, God approves!

7. Hmmm, the obvious historical connections make me wonder

if there was a connection between Opus Dei and the various undergrounds that were a part of the Odessa project that arranged for Nazis to get safe passage to South America. Seems like those birds of a feather would definitely have flocked together.

10. Oh, exactly! I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this

is definitely a case where Occam's Razor comes into play! Given the tight association of Opus Dei to Franco's fascist regime it all fits.

We're not talking official Vatican policy here, just a bunch of people running around using Vatican banking facilities and diplomatic passports. So we're talking connections to the Vatican Bank, Banco Ambrosiano, and the Masons as well!

Like I said, this is more a sign of Vatican incompetence than anything else; no one is in charge and no one is minding the store!

Some day someone is going to make a film about the absurd goings-on in Vatican City during and after WWII. Some priests were running the Ratline for Nazi war criminals and their allies while other priests were smuggling Jews and other victims to safety!

P.S. I'm not advocating nor denying the issues raised in the above link. That just fleshes out more information that was provided in the OP.
