First lady Michelle Obama will be the main speaker at Girls Inc. of Omaha's annual Lunch for the Girls fundraiser in April.
It has become an annual question: Who will be the next illustrious speaker for Girls Inc.? In 2005, then-Sen. Barack Obama spoke at the luncheon, which through the years has attracted former President Bill Clinton, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Madeleine Albright and Warren Buffett.
Girls Inc. leaders have courted the first lady for years, said Roberta Wilhelm, executive director of Girls Inc. of Omaha. It finally was able to get on her schedule, and on Friday, Wilhelm revealed her as the speaker for the April 24 event at the CenturyLink Center Omaha. Tickets are $100, or $200 for patrons, and may be obtained by calling 402-457-4676, or online at the Girls Inc. website.
As of Friday, the girls in the organization had yet to be told, though they've come to expect a celebrity.
