Are donated organs ever used more than once?

For example, if Cheney were to kick it relatively soon, would that heart then be available to someone else?

I mean, assuming the ole dickhead is registered as an organ donor, which I highly doubt.

But in theory, can that happen?

I haven't seen any info on this, but somehow I doubt they are used again. CaliforniaPeggy Mar 2012 #1

The people who are transplanted are compromised, and if the organ fails, or for some reason the person dies, then I very much doubt that the organ is re-used.

But I could be wrong.

although if one is on anti-rejection drugs, I guess maybe it wouldn't matter how many antigens were present.

And if the death is due to rejection, then the organ will have maybe become damaged?

But if the death is unrelated to the organ itself, seems it could be used

Livers have a way of growing on you. Also a donor can give a slice of his/her liver an unlimited number of times, within reason.
