I must be blind or not adept as skimming articles...
One person I know says it was in the back (I don't know where she got that info).....but certainly can't find confirmation of that either.
We keeping hearing about Zimmermans injury but not so much about the cumulative injuries of Trayvon.

(135,425 posts)I also have no idea from which direction the bullet that caused the fatal injury travelled before it entered his chest (if that's where it did, indeed, end up).

(38,613 posts)I heard it was the chest too, but what I haven't heard is whether any attempt to recreate the scene was done, like one would normally expect when someone is shot dead. Was it point blank? Was it from 30 feet away? Who knows?

(18,585 posts)Because we haven't seen it in the news, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
I know if I were Trayvon's family, I wouldn't want autopsy photos, etc released to the press.

(29,013 posts)If the gun was fired several feet away and not at point blank range, this would show that Martin was not on top of Zimmerman and punching him at the time and those were Martin's crys for help. If there was distance between them and a fight had taken place then Zimmerman would know Martin was un-armed and fired anyway. Clearly that would not be self defense.

(57,936 posts)The important facts here are that Zimmerman was some distance away from Trayvon when Zimmerman called 911. In that call, Zimmerman stated (and suggested) that Trayvon was running away from him.
Zimmerman was instructed not to follow Trayvon. Trayvon was killed not far from the house to which he was headed.
You have to think that the rules of evidence will prevent some of the "facts" we think we know from being considered by a jury. Zimmerman's statements in the 911 call he made may harm his case in my opinion. But it's up to a jury, so you never, never know.
Think about the OJ trial. So many people were convinced he would be convicted -- but there was a problem with the time-line. It troubled the jury so that they did not convict.
No matter the outcome of the Zimmerman case, it illustrates the problems with a law that discourages law enforcement from detaining or arresting a person who claims to have killed in self-defense. That is not acceptable.

(17,055 posts)that made me question if a person is shot in the chest does the person fall forward on their stomach?
It caught my attention because this witness said:
Cutcher added that Zimmerman told her and her roommate to call the police.
"Zimmerman never turned him over or tried to help him or CPR or anything," Cutcher said.

How did Zimmerman get straddled over Trayvon's back if Travon was shot in the chest? And why was he straddled over his back? I hope these kind of things get answered eventually.

(62,325 posts)He was lying face down. Would someone fall on their face if they were shot in the chest? I really don't know, so why I am asking. Also from what distance was he shot? If he was very close I suppose he could have fallen on his face. But witnesses say he was on the ground when he was crying for help, then stopped after the gunshot.

(135,425 posts)The chest is rather like an oval barrel--you can shoot into it from any angle.

I know that you can't tell me that's what actually happened. My question is could that have happened?

(135,425 posts)Or anywhere right under the ribcage, with the trajectory pointing up to the chest.
We will have to wait to see the trajectory of the bullet from the autopsy report.
When they say "chest" we don't know if they mean that is where the bullet entered, or that's where the bullet did its dirty work. We simply have very little to go on.
What I do know, though, is that Zimmerman was in no danger of having Skittles shoved up his nose and being waterboarded with an Arizona Iced Tea by that kid. Beyond that, I know that the kid with the candy and the drink is dead, and the guy with the gun hasn't answered for his part in all that.

(18,585 posts)Many police departments don't use 9mm because it doesn't have enough power to stop an attacker quickly.
Lots of folks are used to seeing the hollywood version of a gunfight where a shot picks someone up and throws them backward through a plate glass window.
If that were true, Newton's third law would mean that the shooter would *also* be thrown into the air, in the *opposite* direction.

Speculation, I admit.

(17,055 posts)Being shot in the chest doesn't necessarily mean shot from the front? Am I getting that right, cause I have no idea how this works?
MADem
(135,425 posts)You could shoot someone in their liver from a bunch of different angles, for example--or shoot them in the heart from the back, or the side, or even shooting upward.
We're hearing third hand accounts, so there's just no way to know. I will be paying attention to the trial, if we can get to that point, and I'll bet I am not alone.

A request for records from the funeral home that prepared the body for burial might be in order, because the police may/may not have done an autopsy..as sloppy as their work has been so far.
