If there's one thing we know about Pat Robertson he doesn't mince words.
The televangelist, and former GOP presidential candidate, delivered another zinger Monday, when he welcomed conservative activist, Rabbi Daniel Lapin to his Christian Broadcasting Network show The 700 Club. Lapin was there to promote his book Business Secrets From the Bible about making money.
Robertson started the interview by asking, What is it about Jewish people that make them prosper financially? You almost never find Jews tinkering with their cars on the weekends or mowing their lawns.
Lapin didn't appear the least bit surprised or insulted. In fact, he agreed with Robertson. No, I pay one of the best mechanics around to take care of my BMW. That's what I do. I'd be crazy to take my time doing it myself, Lapin said. Or for me to mow my lawn, I'm the worse lawn mower in the world, but the young man who lives down the street from me, he's one of the best and he's happy to do it. I'm happy. Later in the interview, Robertson joked that Jews are polishing diamonds, not fixing cars.

(32,078 posts)after Sharpton said back in '91 at the funeral of Gavin Cato (whose death preceded the Crown Heights riots), "Talk about how Oppenheimer in South Africa sends diamonds straight to Tel Aviv and deals with the diamond merchants right here in Crown Heights. The issue is not anti-Semitism; the issue is apartheid."
But Robertson is on their side and is backed by a fellow Religious Right guy who happens to be Jewish, so it's OK I guess.
Never is my guess.

(5,305 posts)bad mouth the competition.
Not just Jews, but those competing with his blood diamond business.
Yeah, I knew he was heavily involved in the blood diamonds. What a disgusting human being.

(65,616 posts)Anytime I hear whining about Jews, I notice it is someone that hates hard work and took the easy way to get where they are at. Pat has never worked a day in his life, all this time all he has done is steal money from the elderly by lying about God.
Hardly a job more like a crime.

People began to refuse the Bibles, added a local. What we need is food and medicine, they said. Operation Blessing would say, Thats not our mission.
Furthermore, Robertson repeatedly alleged on The 700 Club that he had purchased a fleet of Vietnam-era cargo planes from United Flights to ship medical supplies to Goma.
I thought this was a good deal men helping men, said Robert Hinkle, Chief Pilot for Operation Blessing in 1994. They began asking me, Can we haul a 1,000-pound dredge over? I didnt know what the dredging was about.

(41,219 posts)Antisemitism will never die, I fear.
And such prejudices often involve a fair bit of projection - Robertson's relationship with diamonds is a pretty dodgy one.

The Neo-Christian (usually votes for their Neo-Con rep) is a particular North American invention. They have been convinced to believe the exact opposite of what Christ warned against. And seem to have no shame at all. Now the more wealth you have, no matter how you attain it (vulture capitalism, inheritance,...) is directly related to how "blessed" you are by God. And I suppose any tax on that is like taking away God's blessing on you. Conversely, if one is poor, unemployed you must have done something terrible and so deserve to be where you are in life and it would be a downright sin to ever contemplate helping them through social funded programs.
It was a brilliant take-over of a whole religion. IMO more complete than the Islamic faith taken over by its own extremists who also bend the Koran into their own definitions. The Christian religion, the Evangelical fundie branch was dying out about the same time Billy Graham slowed down due to health. I think collectively the fundie leaders decided to get more aggressive and talk more like firey politicians and you saw more "entertainment" style revivalists, more miracle healing TV preachers. More TV stations bought to show the propaganda. Stop preaching about Jesus's messages about loving your enemies, selling off all you own and giving to the poor, turning the other cheek, and more re-invention towards the political hot buttons like abortion and gay marriage.
And the Republican party, being the most willing to sell themselves (because there is nothing much to sell) latched onto this passionate desperate rats-in-the-corner segment of the population even more than they had in the past. They knew that these religious people are inclined to be convinced easily of unproven realities and decided to go all in. Dubya was a humble Christian who found God through his fight with alcoholism. The Right knew that all they had to do was CLAIM to be "Christian" and the religiously minded would never contend that declaration in any rep of the party that agreed with their own bigoted opinions on immigration, marriage, abortion choice etc..So Dubya and co. mass murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and only had to claim that "God told me to do it"
Anyways, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I had to vent.

I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America.
