Saturday, May 10th marks the 22nd anniversary of one of Americas great days of giving the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food drive.
Letter carriers walk through the community every day, often coming face to face with a sad reality for too many, hunger.
Too many people in this country are still going hungry every day, NALC President Fredric Rolando said. As letter carriers, we see this firsthand in just about every community we serve. But we arent the type of folks who simply move on to the next delivery and hope someone else will do something about it. Instead, for more than two decades now, our members have taken the lead in the effort to help solve this ongoing national problem.
So, each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from our customers. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people in the local area who need our help.
The NALC works in partnership with the AFL-CIO Community Services Network, United Way Worldwide and the nations food bank network. This partnership has resulted in making the Letter Carrier Food Drive the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
