Light bulbs for lamps with clip on shades

I have a couple of lamps that have the type of shade that sits on the lightbulb by way of a metal wire resting on each side of the bulb. I just realized that don't make 100 watt incandescent bulbs any more.

I see that there are some LED bulbs that might work with this type of shade but they don't have any high watt ones in the supermarket. I'll have to go to a hardware store. I'm wondering if there are any florescent varieties that might be cheaper that could work for this type of lamp. Does any one know off hand if anything besides an led will work? A couple of these lamps aren't used very often and a cheaper florescent bulb would do. I'll eventually get to Home Depot or Lowes so no big deal but I'm curious what people have been using the last few years. Thanks.

I use the newfangled corkscrewy ones with the same kind of lamp. It's a bit awkward going on and off Voice for Peace Apr 2014 #8

I think the default wattage is 100 if the lamp is not a three way, not sure.

I'm on my way to the supermarket and will double check that they don't have those. If they don't, I'll make a trip to one of the bigger hardware stores. Thanks for the speedy and informative answer.

I guess they have some left over. I think I am going to go with the 72watt Eco-incadescent. It still has 1500 lumens which is only about 100 less than the older bulbs. I'm going to take a closer look at the LED bulbs while I am there. I use one lamp all the time and wouldnt mind getting an LED for that one but the round part of the bulb looks a little small but I think it will work. Thanks again.

the consumer bulbs are out of production but the identical industrial bulbs remain available, , may always be, albeit not from retail outlets.

I think the new type bulbs are tragic - the large globes suited my ceiling lamps better. Just found some here
