I'm not happy with the mandates, but I understand the need for compromise...

however, what I worry about is the rest of the ACA, and what affects the overturning of it will have on us. Right now, my fiancee is without insurance, but needs it badly, when she lost her job, we maintained COBRA as long as possible, but the premiums were just too much(it was over a quarter of our income). We decided to try to get quotes from other insurance companies and try to get her self-insured. They wouldn't even give her quotes, she's bipolar, a preexisting medical condition, Anthem just hung up on her as soon as she mentioned that.

So, since she was denied, our other options are medicaid and possibly our state's exchange, we still have a few months left to wait to qualify for that. My worry is if she doesn't qualify for medicaid, what will happen to the state exchange that exists now if the current law is overturned?

Some states already have the PEC state insurance, like IL. You have to be without insurance riderinthestorm Mar 2012 #1
Missouri has a similar exchange, that's what we are waiting for... Humanist_Activist Mar 2012 #4

however for 6 months before you can qualify for it.

AND it's expensive as well....

Good luck.

Edited to add that the IL program preceded the ACA and will continue even if the health care reform programs are struck down by SCOTUS. In fact, from what I can tell, a lot of the different parts of the ACA were taken from various successful state programs.

I have to check and see if its dependent on ACA, given the way our state is run by the fucking Repukes, I won't doubt they will try to cut it off if its no longer required.

it's the reason the pre-exsisting condition discrimination can be eliminated. It's done everywhere with car insurance. It's personal responsibility for something everyone will need.

I'd be more than happy to pay more in taxes, not so happy to pay a premium for a plan I might or might not be able to afford to use.
