In Ohio Monday, Mitt Romney said that students are pulling back from President Obama and predicted that Obama will try to win students by promising a lot of free stuff, reports ABC News.
Romney said that the answer to financing higher education is not to say, Lets have the federal government give unlimited loans, no interest to everybody who wants them.
By the way, youre going to hear that, Romney said. In an effort to try to get them engaged, hes going to promise to give a lot of free stuff to them. And to say, Ill pay for your education, or Ill get rid of the loans.
Romney suggested he would try to lower tuition costs by increasing competition between universities. Romney has said he supports an extension of the subsidized government student loan program currently pending in Congress.

Mitt on the other hand will simply promise people unrealistic stuff: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002643728
In Mitt's world, only millionaires and billionaires deserve "free stuff."

We have rather a large number of universities in this country already. Just how does he think he can "increase competition"? Perhaps if we drastically reduced tuition at public universities, private colleges would feel the need to compete on price. I somehow don't think that is what he has in mind, though.

(70,635 posts)1) The student Stafford loan program is not an open ended no interest loan.
2) Free stuff? wtf is he taking about? Chia pets? Tattoos? Winter break vacations
in Colorado?
3) Competition between universities? Colleges are academic institutions that for many
years have encouraged their faculties to share their research w/ others in their field of study
by publishing their research and by having students and professors attend or work at different
institutions. This is a "we are going to decrease the cost of health care insurance by allowing
people to shop for insurance across state lines" bullshit statement.
When is the media going to call out Mitt for being a bald faced liar?

This should be a cakewalk. Except that's all the specifics stupid people need. Yeah! Obama will promise free stuff to kids! Like ice cream! Kids LOVE ice cream!

(14,765 posts)What specificly? Forgiving student loan debt would be a major economic boost and the return would be in tax dollars from the things we would buy with funds that would otherwise be tied up paying on those loans and would be a slow return and a much lower one for the government.
