A new chapter has begun for Bruce Jenner. The Olympic Gold Medal winner and E! reality star will soon embark on a public journey of his transition to a woman, as he takes strides towards living the life that is more true to himself in an all new E! docuseries premiering in July.
In a public release statement on April 24 from E!, the entertainment network announced the July 26 premiere date for the upcoming documentary series detailing Bruce Jenners transition from a man to a woman. The new reality series will be the second for the Olympian who has starred on the E! show Keeping Up With The Kardashians for nearly eight years, but it will be the first to detail the next chapter of his life. Bruce hopes people maintain an open mind and with the positive response seen by celebrities after his tell-all interview last night, that hope could be fulfilled.
In the new documentary series, cameras will follow Bruce on the road to his new life as a transgender woman. A life he says that he was meant to live. In a recent interview with Diane Sawyer, Bruce opened up for the first time, and last time as a man, about coming to this decision to do the docuseries, particularly how Keeping Up With The Kardashians played a role.

(45,319 posts)I do think it is pretty fucking insulting to think Jenner is transitioning for the show. 'All about promoting a show'.
Some days, I lose all hope for straight culture.

(24,853 posts)The interview and the show are about bringing attention and discussion to important issues he has been dealing with his whole life, which can be a good thing for many individuals also dealing with those issues.

(51,308 posts)that the interview was about promoting the reality show.
No one thinks he transitioned in order to get the show. That would be ridiculous.
But I'm sure the interview was in order to promote the show. The show was announced some time ago - of course he's gonna promote it. It's a no brainer.

(3,212 posts)Yeah, I do long for the days when "those" people were not on tv.

(7,290 posts)that it was all about promoting a reality show, but after seeing the interview, I don't care why he did it. The fact that he did it is important, and I believe that it might actually save lives, both by helping those struggling with their gender identity and by opening the hearts and minds of those that don't personally know anyone struggling with these issues.
I don't get why some people are so negative about his interview.

(9,302 posts)I really could not care less about the show, but rather I am supporting a person who has chosen to come out as a transwoman.
He* is doing something that I think will make society more accepting for all transgendered people in the country and that is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
*Using male pronouns only because it is my understanding that he does not want to be referred to as a she yet.

(24,853 posts)Imagine how much ABC just saved NBC on advertising.
You should really delete this OP, UNLESS you believe that ABC is in the business of promoting shows owned by OTHER FUCKING NETWORKS.

(7,290 posts)Thanks for making the connection that I had completely missed.
Based on this and other threads here the last couple of days, it seems that support for a celebrity coming out as LGBT hinges on whether or not that person is a Democrat or a Republican.
It's appalling, IMO.

(51,308 posts)ABC wanted the interview because they considered it newsworthy, which it is.
I still think Jenner wanted to promote his show. Both things can be true at the same time.
I'm glad that a prominent athlete is willing to talk about the struggle he underwent dealing with his gender identification - for whatever reason.

(24,853 posts)I never felt that kind of cynicism or skepticism though. Maybe it was wishful thinking influenced by my Son.
cwydro
(51,308 posts)he made a "choice" to be who he is.
I'm gay, and I know it doesn't work that way.
Your son is lucky to have you.

I meant that being transgender is not a choice, nor is homosexuality.

(5,937 posts)That's what has people losing their minds about him and trashing who he is and what he's done. Pathetic.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Had he said he's a Democrat, and had Republicans said he was doing the interview to promote a reality show, the hypocrites on this site would have been screaming from the rooftops.
Pathetic is right.

(27,985 posts)Votes, tbh.
He's giving a voice and a face to the issue and if he can help destigmatize, hooray. He seemed sincere, he seems like a good person and I wish him the best.

(1,933 posts)Anyone who was truly serious about a sex change would want it to be a private matter.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Someone that is in the public eye, that was a national hero due to his performance in the Olympics, who has contemplated suicide because of this...I think it's because he believes he can make a difference to those that suffer in silence and are afraid to come out to their families and friends.
And why should it be a private matter? There's nothing shameful in what he's doing.
TexasMommaWithAHat
(3,212 posts)He has lived his life in public for years, so why should this be any different? He has nothing to hide, and this is how he and his family have made a fortune.
I can't stand the Kardashians and consider them vulgar in their quest for fame, but I'm not going to judge whether or not Jenner is serious about transitioning.
Cal Carpenter
(4,959 posts)You think he is just messing around for publicity?

(1,695 posts)But maybe one about Bruce could help some people understand more about transgender people. He's an immensely famous athlete AND he came out as a republican. That could draw a lot of viewers from all walks of life. I suppose it's all on how the shows produced.

(5,158 posts)I don't care for reality shows but if this helps bring attention to the issue I'm all for it. IIRC, Chaz Bono did a reality show when he transitioned so I don't see what the difference is.
