ZEPHYRHILLS A Zephyrhills High School science teacher faces dismissal amid allegations that she used a "cone of shame" dog collar to discipline students.
Pasco County schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino has recommended firing physical science teacher Laurie Bailey-Cutkomp, 47, for putting the collar the type used to prevent animals from licking themselves after surgery on at least eight of her ninth-graders on two days in April.

(11,489 posts)This doesn't physically hurt the kid. It's not like spanking them with a paddle or duck-taping their hands or mouth.
Are teachers forbidden to use any kind of discipline or punishment these days?

Those things itch like crazy?
Humiliation?
Possible long term psychological damage from being treated like a DOG?
There are a million other ways to motivate students?
There a almost that many other reasons not to.

(2,820 posts)Toss the kid out of class. I'm sure there are ways of dealing with an obnoxious kid that doesn't involve pain or humiliation.

Actually, I don't know about this county, but there are other states where it really does work in this way.
