The Eyes of the Hunter Owl photos

X post in Birder & photo. Permission to use the low grade photos not for profit granted.

Marta was letting the dogs out for the last time tonight. Her eye caught movement flying up out of the neighbors yard. At first she thought crow. Then she saw the silhouette below. Apparently our late in the day songbirds and critters are on the menu.

The top photo shot with the flash on reveals the eyes.

We can't tell enough from the photo what type of owl it is for sure. We know we have several Barred Owls around us.

I have one in my neighborhood that I catch a glimpse of now and then.

Back when I lived in the sticks, I had a HUGE owl that would hunt every night in the pasture in front of our home. It was an amazing thing to see.

Sorry I can't post his wonderful photo. He shot it on a branch looking rather bedraggled, but clean and refreshed, after its bath.

giving an 'alert' call...spooky sound. we found that there is a huge nest and apparently a mating pair about 50 yards behind our house. We see them and hear them all the time... magnificent creatures.

who cooks for you, indeed!
