Apparently the motorcyclist was splitting lanes and the motorist took offense. Aside from the obvious warning that getting involved in a road rage incident is ill advised, this unhappy motorist ignored the rule to never punch somebody in the head when they are wearing a fullface helmet.
Glad to see nobody was seriously injured and hoping this guy gets some anger management counseling.

(15,429 posts)The motorcyclist needs to have his license revoked and the other driver needs to be brought up on assault and battery charges.

Revoke his license.
The other guy belongs behind bars.

(115,681 posts)dangerous and unlawful? What other traffic laws should mandate losing drivers license for breaking?
A quick look gives me this on AZ land splitting.

A. All motorcycles are entitled to the full use of a lane. A person shall not drive a motor vehicle in such a manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane. This subsection does not apply to motorcycles operated two abreast in a single lane.
B. The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken.
C. A person shall not operate a motorcycle between the lanes of traffic or between adjacent rows of vehicles.
D. A person shall not operate a motorcycle more than two abreast in a single lane.
E. Subsections B and C do not apply to peace officers in the performance of their official duties.

(146,345 posts)It's legal in California, for example.

(4,766 posts)Well, technically it's "not illegal" - it isn't explicitly permitted, but it also isn't explicitly banned. Regardless, from my personal experience in ME, CT, PA and NY at least, enforcement is lax at best as long as you aren't being an irresponsible jackwagon about it (cruising through stopped highway traffic at 15mph, or threading up to the line at a stoplight, as opposed to duck-and-weave in traffic at 140).
If the cagers were taught to look before swerving, it wouldn't be an issue at all.

(146,345 posts)watching people drive, the very last thing I'd be doing is splitting lanes. Seems like a good way to end up dead to me.
When I have to drive in California, I keep a close eye on both side mirrors in heavy freeway traffic. In L.A. especially, lane-splitting happens all the time. I want to know if a bike is going to pass me within touching distance at all times. Most drivers, however, don't pay any attention to their side mirrors.
Scariest motorcycle ride I ever did was down the 405 at dusk. I pretty much had to change my underwear after I got where I was going. Cured me of L.A. freeway riding forever.
Now that I'm almost 70, I won't be on two wheels again.

(4,766 posts)When traffic is stopped/under 5mph and dense enough that unexpected lane changes are impossible, e.g. a total jam on the highway or traffic at a light. If I see the tiniest gap that somebody could cut into I'll hold back until it closes. It's done me well for 15 years now; I have no desire or need to whip between two semis at 75. I keep my hooning on very familiar back roads with good lines of sight and reasonably safe runoff, thanks.
Never had the pleasure of riding Cali freeways and I'm pretty sure I don't want to.

(4,766 posts)I've personally split on the Deegan right past a cop, and more than once split up to the line at a light in plain view. I came up right next to a cruiser once on Houston, and all I got was a smile and a wave.
It's really only dangerous because all cagers are homicidal idiots.
That said, I wouldn't argue with a citation for the rider since he was technically breaking the law but a license revocation is entirely disproportionate to the offense. Whatcha think we should do with stunters and ghostriders, summary execution?

Second, there is no evidence that he did so.

(15,429 posts)No more motorcycles for a year if you're caught doing it.
Too many deaths because of it.

(10,201 posts)I looked it up and found that there is no requirement to appear before a judge, and it can be expunged after paying the fine if you attend a defensive driving course. Doesn't a license suspension require an appearance before a judge? It seems strange that you can have it expunged by taking a driving course.
The penalty is quite high in most municipalities from what I could look up... About $230.

(7,318 posts)pretty well. Wonder what state this was in? Some states specifically allow motorcyclists to go between cars as long as they are careful.

(10,749 posts)The nitpicking on the motorcyclist's driving was silly. We don't know what he did or didn't do. That wasn't on the video.
What he did in protecting himself and keeping the road rager under control was extremely restrained.

There is zero excuse for road rage. None. I've recently had an experience where I almost was guilty of it myself. To the point where I flipped a u-turn, and followed someone into a parking lot. I was lucky that I calmed down enough and just rode off without doing anything I would later regret. In fact... It was just last Saturday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/111415335
I do admire this rider's restraint, especially since the dude pushed his significant other. I would have lost my cool at that point.

Also, there are updates from the cyclist:
Update 07/13/15: Police department officials have told me that they are still waiting for blood test results to come back to determine what if anything was in the guys system, I will keep everyone posted.
