The thing about Trump that worries

I had posted this in a different thread that was self-deleted by the OP, where it talked about Trump going to the border to talk about security, etc. What Trump represents is something that reminds me heavily of a book I finished re-reading last night called Russian Spring, where it dealt heavily with the way America went full-Reagan (it was written just as the wall came down in Germany, so it was dated in a sense before it came out), where everything the country invested in was towards Battlestar America, a version of Star Wars on superdrugs.

One of the pieces of the book was the heavy, heavy jingoism and the way the country slid hard and fast into it because of the slick speakers who made their way into power.

Very amusing to watch, but also horrifying in so many other ways. Trump is another piece of that slide.

There is always an element of the popular that falls for easy jingolist ideas, Rmember this one that justified us fighting in Vietnam - "the countries will fall like dominoes".
