On this day in Labor History the year was 1775. That was the day that the United States Post Office was created in Philadelphia under Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was a member of the Second Continental Congress. Among many distinctions Ben Franklin was the nation’s first Postmaster General.

I flew into Philadelphia to attend my son's "graduation" from Coast Guard boot camp in Cape May, N.J. on Friday.
Saturday, along with my two daughters and my son, I went on a tour of the historic part of Philly.
I saw Ben Franklin's house (actually a steel frame in the shape of his house), his grave, several statues, and his
US Post Office. It is still in operation, just a stone's throw from his house. I was told by the tour guide that Ben's P.O.
is the only one in the United States that doesn't fly the U.S. flag, as it hadn't been created yet.
It was a cool tour and included the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Library Hall, Betsy Ross' House and much more.
