A Sarpy County Court judge sent a strong message to a former Springfield Platteview teacher convicted of procuring alcohol to an underage former student, sentencing him to the maximum penalty behind bars.

Thursday, Judge Todd Hutton sentenced Justin Dannelly, 37, to a year in prison for a February incident in which authorities said he trespassed into a Sarpy County Girl Scout camp with an 18-year-old former student and gave her alcohol.

Dannelly, who received credit for one day served, also must pay a $100 fine, plus costs.

Hutton said Dannelly exploited the student with his position as a teacher, coach and adult.
