The Backlash Continues! Lion Killer Walter Palmer’s PR Firm Quits As African Officials Close In

Lion killer Walter Palmer just lost one of his only allies: RadarOnline.com has learned that the public relations firm formerly associated with the American dentist has quit, as the outrage against his alleged poaching of Cecil the lion continues to mount.

After being publicly outed by the London Telegraph, Dr. Palmer hired J. Austin & Associates, a public relations firm.

Wednesday afternoon, the public relations firms issued a statement on social media, stating their work with Palmer was finished.

“Yesterday another PR firm asked to help distribute Dr. Palmer’s statement. Having completed that task, we’ve ended our work on this issue,” the post on Twitter stated.

1. That's like an attorney in the middle of a case throwing in the towel, isn't it?

Palmer is toxic. Maybe he can get Westboro Baptist Church on his side.

had done reprehensible things. I thought that's what they do.

I mean, I hate the guy. I hope he sees serious repercussions, but folks are supposed to have attorneys to defend them and I thought firms like this were supposed to help in situations like this.

them. Do we know if it is their decision or his decision.

Also they may felt that they had nothing else to contribute. The damage has been done, and it is best to let the fire burn out. Some actions by the dentist may have a tendency to indicate guilt. In addition to the potential criminal possibilities, I wonder if the park has a potential tort against him for damages.

Actually what I read indicates that this was almost legal. The only thing missing was a specific license on the property in which he shot the lion. Apparently luring the lion out of the park is allowed.

The whole concept of luring what effectively is a pet to be killed is really sordid, but it goes on everyday. My dad had a hunting preserve that leased a portion of his land. The preserve owner took my brother and me around to show us the land prior to our sale of the land to him. I asked him about these cute little sheep that were being fed from a trough. He indicated that hunters paid money to come shoot them. Needless to say I was horrified. I could see harvesting deer on the property, and he ran wild pigs which are definitely a challenge, but these little things.

4. But unlike attorneys, I doubt public relations persons take an oath.

Perhaps they took a look at the bottom line and figured it wouldn't be good for future business to represent someone so hated? I don't know. I do see your point, but I also believe that one of the best ways to stop someone like this asshole dentist is by the use of OUR consumer dollars (i.e., don't use him as your dentist, etc.)

I guess I take a little gratification thinking that he may have been dumped by the public relations firm because of economics! But if the dude can pay $50,000 many times over for various hunts, then I'm sure he can afford to find another public relations firm.

6. Yeah, but this is their bread and butter I thought. They're supposed to handle people/groups who

have problems like this.

I agree I don't think its a money thing. If you have enough money to go on exotic hunts to Africa for $50K, you can afford $10-20K on a PR firm.

The other thing is it may very well have been legal. But thats what a PR firm is supposed to argue.

7. Agreed. It is their bread and butter.

But again, maybe they are thinking about the bread and butter losses that might occur if they are associated with Walt Palmer. He's being portrayed right now in some stories as the most hated person on earth at the moment. I think the uproar because of social media has been a surprise to a lot of people, most assuredly a surprise to Palmer!

Either way, I don't care. I certainly do not advocate anything violent or illegal against Palmer, but I hope his life is made as miserable and difficult as it can be. I hate trophy hunting for many reasons, one of which is the aristocracy of it all. Rich people who are so bored they have to go out and kill things for fun need to find a better past time. There are animals that are becoming extinct because of this gluttonous practice and by george, money or no money, it's OUR planet, too!

may not have agreed with the PR Firm's strategy and/or may have been unwilling to do what they were asking of him.

9. they had to be outed to do the right thing. there is no spin to this

this is a wound to the heart.

i rather consider Cecil to be me hunted by the 1%

Consider that he led them away from his pride for almost two days, fell when he could go on no longer and watched them laugh as they walked to him and put a bullet in his brain. He saved his pride and suffered and now he will save all his kind. I cannot stop crying over this fucked up shit.

Ironice, now the dentist is being hunted. How does it feel, 1%'er?

apparently his brother is protecting his cubs. I have never heard about a lion doing that. This lion is different, he's miraculous and I feel so crushed about this.
