Say what you want about the customs department, immigration department or homeland security. They know how to state the obvious. Even when it makes them look a bit looney.
Yesterday, Buzz Man in the Moon Aldrin tweeted an image of his favorite astronautical memorabilia: the customs declaration form that absolutely had to be completed when he emerged from that famous business trip of his.
It seemed too good not to share.
If you are going to sin, sin against God, not the bureaucracy. God will forgive you but the bureaucracy wont.

so they may have come under the duty-free allowance. Especially if the three pooled their allowances.
Or they could have argued that the samples had no commercial value and were just personal keepsakes.

Rumour has it that one astronaut put in an expense claim for travel at a standard rate to the Moon and back, and was countered with a form requesting reimbursement for the cost of a rocket which he had not returned in good working condition.

(53,339 posts)16. LOL!
At the government mileage reimbursement rate then of 10 cents, that would have been quite a bill.
