(8,636 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]One gentleman I know in his early 70s, actually a very nice guy and an old-time moderate Republican in most respects, says, "Because they're pretty. What's wrong with that?"
He wears a bemused smile as he says this and it's obvious that he very much enjoys watching them just because he thinks they're "pretty."
Fox is marketing fantasies to its demographic base, both sexual and political, and the old white men love it.

(57,936 posts)Actually, some of these women may have a lot of gray hair that they are covering up with bleach. Some of them may be considerably older than people think they are.

(75,480 posts)You know the 'gentlemen prefer blondes but marry brunettes' saying back in the forties and fifties. It's very sexist too saying in effect that the sexy woman was for the bedroom and the little brown mouse was for the kitchen. Maybe it speaks to the demographic of dirty old men that Fox speaks to.

(57,936 posts)I sang from my earliest childhood.
So for the Christmas play they chose me to be Mary and sing Silent Night.
I was very upset about that. I wanted to be an angel because they got to sing the Glorias and their notes were higher and more challenging. I was not old enough to appreciate the fact that Mary was the star of the play (unless you count the doll that was dressed up as baby Jesus).
I was told that I could not be an angel because the angels had to have yellow hair and since my hair was jet black, and I mean blue-jet black, I had to be the Mary. Nothing else would do.
That was the 1940s. I have never forgotten.

My story happened in the 1940s. Now, well, I try, but nature has its way.

(6,342 posts)It seems every single program with a panel that includes a woman has her in a specific position where her legs are on full display.
It's obviously done on purpose.

(36,988 posts)Foxs women exclusively wear short skirts and it has been reported that they have been ordered by management to do so. Gabriel Sherman wrote in his biography of Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, The Loudest Voice In The Room, that Ailes has repeatedly given direction to his staff regarding the display of female body parts. Furthermore, NPRs media reporter David Folkenflik was told by knowledgeable sources about the Fox News Leg Cam that goes directly for the legs. And when host Megyn Kelly was interviewed by GQ (with an accompanying, and revealing, pictorial), she was asked about her own glass table that shows off your legs. She responded that Well, Its a visual business. People want to see the anchor. That must be why Sean Hannity struts across the stage in those fuck-me pumps.
A new study published in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior sheds some light on why Fox features so much skin. The study found that American states that identify as more religious and conservative are also more apt to search for sex online. The researchers concluded that in parts of the country where sexuality is suppressed by religious tradition, there is a pent up demand for that forbidden fruit.
While the study is an interesting window into the lascivious psyche of conservative America, it also helps to explain the decisions by Fox News programmers. As a network devoted to a staunchly right-wing, Christian audience, much of their viewership comes from the states that this study identifies as porn fiends. Consequently, Fox is catering to the demands of their audience. No doubt Foxs marketing executives figured out a long time ago what this study is affirming more scientifically.
Additionally, at 69 years, Foxs viewers er
voyeurs skew much older than their competitors. So what we have here is an audience of bible-thumping, Tea Partying, leches who are cooped up in rural communities that look askance at prurient interests. Thus, Fox becomes their source of gratification for both erotic and political arousal. And make no mistake, the obsessive nature of Foxs concentration on tabloid thrill-fiction like Benghazi and Obamas birth certificate is the news equivalent of porn. It is presented with a lustful glee and repeated ad nauseam.

(36,988 posts)A great summary of Sigmund Freuds nephew, Edward Bernays' influence on corporate and political marketing. Known as the father of public relations
Bernays was a pioneer in introducing psychological concepts in to the political and corporate worlds, concepts so successful it borders on mind control. Covers his work ranging from breaking a taboo and selling cigarettes to women to selling Guatamala's leader as a communist in league with the Soviets.
It goes to show how strongly people can be influenced by appealing to their unconscious desires and it is thanks to his work that today we live in a consumerist society that focuses on desire over need and places an egotistic self over a selfless collective. If you are interested in this I highly recommend watching 'The Century Of The Self. ;

(75,480 posts)I was looking for a job once and there was one at a computer company (back when they had the big main frames) that I had done a temp job at and they liked my work. It was a good company to work for so there seldom were full time hire job openings. However, a new CEO had taken over, and he specifically requested for the agency not to send him any ordinary girls. He was creating an image and wanted his office staff to look exotic perhaps favoring polynesian or Asian looks. I only laughed with the head hunter. Usually, the favorite hire then was a blonde with an English accent.
