(21,925 posts)but I'd venture to guess that so-called "anchor babies" would be only a small fraction of illegal immigrants, even if we were to repeal their U.S. citizenship status (which we can't) and render them undocumented. They're really not "anchors", as their parents, brothers, sisters would have to wait until that U.S. born child became 21 years of age before they could seek adjustment of status (permanent residence) through them under current U.S. law. There may be an immigration problem, but I don't think these children are even a fraction of it.
