The Koch brothers confab is coming to Columbus today, and a liberal group has rolled out a welcome mat leading straight into a buzz saw of criticism. A 92-page report How the Kochs Have Polluted Ohio with Their Business & Politics was released by the Bridge Project, a nonprofit group dedicated to exposing the conservative movements dishonest tactics, dismantling its extreme ideology, and shining light on the moneyed special interests that fund it. The groups super-PAC is American Bridge, which tracks GOP candidates and conducts opposition research, funded by unlimited donations from unions and major Democratic donors such as George Soros.
Five Republican presidential candidates are scheduled to attend the two-day Defending the American Dream Summit at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal are speaking this afternoon, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are slated for Saturday afternoon.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich is not among the speakers. When asked why, Christopher Neefus, deputy director of the Koch brothers Americans for Prosperity, the events sponsor, replied, We just dont think its right to talk about who was invited or not invited to any particular event. The Americans for Prosperity volunteers who attend the conference are going to be treated to a range of views and ideas on tackling economic issues we face.
The Bridge Projects study detailed widespread involvement by the Koch brothers in Ohio, from a host of campaign contributions to support of right-to-work to ownership of Georgia Pacific, whose plant on the South Side has raised environmental concerns for years. The company is an independently operated and managed part of Koch Industries. It was tagged with 11 serious violations which means death or serious physical harm could result earlier this year by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The agency proposed fines topping $60,000.
The report also was critical of the Kochs involvement in campaigns against the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium levy last year and various local issues and school levies across the state. And it chronicled extensive campaign contributions for Ohio Republicans running for statewide office, U.S. Senate, Congress and the legislature....

(7,830 posts)That's about what they've budgeted for 2016: $889 million.
And that's for all levels of the govt. They're very sneaky that way. It's how they took over Ohio in recent past elections.

(34,661 posts)Political Image these last couple of months. Notice he Koch Industry feel good Commercials on most major metro area T.V. stations, tons of pro Chemical Company Op-Ed's,banner promo's on Web Sites. And as far as Trump goes,it's early in the cycle, and this turd will be flushed when the !%ers get back from their summer retreats. Just a fool playing a bit part on the stage of absurd. Roger Ailes will take this smelly POS off the stage soon. The Republican Party does not have a theme that resonates with the Populace and they are running garbage up the flag pole just to stupefy the Nation.

(23,946 posts)part of the same strategy within the Democrstic Party.
All I want is unity and recognition that any focus on internal strife is focus lost on the folks who want a police state to rule the world.

(34,661 posts)And we know the Rockefeller Wing of our Party has zero time for Bernie and in that, that is a major worry, when are they going to turn their Madison Ave hate machine on. These Monied folks do not give a rip about what happens out side their Country Clubs, money buys safety and indulgence. Appears October 22nd might be the time frame for some Party push back towards Bernie . Think that is the convening of the House of Representatives Kangaroo Court and the reauthorization of the Arkansas Project is in or around that time frame. Got to find the smoking gun in them e-mails,yah,right. Sound bites and Propaganda like you say. Distraction.
