My "WTF?" story of the day, "God took a Green Bay packer out..."

God Wanted Jordy Nelson to Get Injured, Says Detroit Lions’ Glover Quin

August 24, 2015 by Hemant Mehta 28 Comments

If you’re a football fan, you’re probably aware that Green Bay Packers receiver Jordy Nelson had a nasty fall in yesterday’s preseason game that resulted in a possible torn ACL. Nelson could be out for the season, a loss that would seriously hurt the Packers’ chances of making it to the Super Bowl.

Is there something the NFL should be doing to prevent these sorts of injuries, like a shorter preseason?

Absolutely not, says Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin. He knows why Nelson got injured: God did it.

“I hated Jordy got hurt, but in my beliefs, and the way I believe, it was — God meant for Jordy to get hurt,” said Quin, a devoted Christian. “So if he wouldn’t have got hurt today, if he wouldn’t have played in that game, if he wouldn’t have practiced anymore, and the next time he walked on the field would have been opening day, I feel like he would have got hurt opening day.

have such a direct line to God?

Who do you suppose God normally roots for? Does He place bets on games? How often does He directly influence the outcome?

In baseball, why does He suddenly love the Royals?

These are all mysteries worth pondering.

God suddenly loves the Royals because the Almighty has at last heard my plaintive cry of suffering. Eat it, American League!

As for Glover Quin's exegesis? I think he's practicing bad theology. I don't know what makes Quin "a devoted Christian" in the estimation of whoever wrote that about him, but his pronouncement is not the sort of thing I would ordinarily associate with Christianity.

of crappy baseball. Wheel in the sky keep on turnin'.....

If the Twins aren't going win the Central, who better than the Royals?, I say. Both KC and Minny have known their share of bad baseball.

I am a dyed-in-the-wool Vikings fan and I don't want to see any player suffer a career-threatening injury.

Not even a Green Bay Packer.

It's football, and the invisible skydaddy had nothing to do with Nelson's landing badly on his knee. Shit happens.

Islam is a fatalistic religion. Hinduism, the karma wheel. Christianity.

It takes a level of abstract thinking to realize that bad occurrences happen regularly.

Also, doing something dangerous requires some fatalism. Remember the war movies about the bullet that has it#s name on it?

On Friday a friend of mine is fighting on international tv. He absolutely does not believe he will be hurt. But he realizes that he may pay the price if his number comes up.

and a car in the lot had a sticker that said something like: God loves the Broncos. That's why we have such beautiful sunsets.

There is absolutely no logical connection between God, the Broncos, and sunsets, so it really was a stupid bumper sticker.

I'm about as totally a non-fan as someone can be and still be sentient in this part of the twenty-first century, but I do understand how others like and follow their teams. Still, thinking that God actually favors one team over another is quite delusional, and thinking that God would arrange to have a player injured is psychopathic thinking.
