He was part of a Conviction Review Unit in the office of the District Attorney in Brooklyn, NY to vacate the convictions of 14 wrongly convicted men.http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/8/26/exonerations-brooklyn-national-problem.html
Coerced or faked confessions is part of a national problem as the story headline says. The men were all minorities.
Congrats to the team and the DA! Job well done.
I hope the mayor gives them some recognition (yeah, I know, I'm being a mom).

(17,997 posts)Awesome stuff! You should be a mom. He deserves it
"More than 40 percent of exonerated defendants who were younger than 18 at the time of the alleged crime gave a false confession" powerful stuff. Sad stuff. We suck. Thank goodness for people like your son.

(63,914 posts)We had to re-arrange family vacations this month and last because of this important work he was doing. But we all "got" it.
It shows you that prosecutors are not always the bad guys, if they have good hearts and strong leadership from their DA.

(8,175 posts)They won't last long. On the other hand, a lovely hardbound book like "To Kill a Mockingbird" or some other valued book about our racist past with a lovely note of congratulations written in the fly leaf, would be a gift that lasts and can be cherished forever...and handed down to children.
Congratulations on a job well done by your son! You have a right to be a proud mom!

(42,770 posts)All too often law enforcement is lazy and takes the easy way out by convincing themselves "if he's not guilty of this offense he's bound to be guilty of something he never was caught for", usually said of POC. I'm glad justice was served as it should have been.

(63,914 posts)He gets that his job as a prosecutor comes with great responsibility. I think he views it rightly as an obligation to keep the system working and seeing to it that it works fairly. There must be respect for the criminal justice system in order for it to work.

(63,914 posts)our very democracy when faith in our system's fairness is gone. I think the Brooklyn DA is doing a great service to our democracy by pushing for this. And I think it is something that both Democrats and Republicans (sane ones at least) can agree with it.

(2,004 posts)This should be a something that both Democrats and Republicans could agree on. If a person cannot agree on this, then we know they are not a person who will act with the best interest of society.
