On Rightwing Christians: Have you noticed something odd about this Ashley Madison scandal?
by SemDem
Since the Ashley Madison scandal broke, I have noticed a distinct lack of condemnation from you rightwing christians.
Where are all the youtube hate videos against the subscribers practicing adultery?
Where are the droves of protestors picketing AshleyMadison.com like Planned Parenthood?
It's pretty clear where Jesus stands with cheating on your spouse. In case you missed the Commandment of "Thou shalt not covet they neighbor's wife", Jesus laid it out:
In Mathew 5:27-30 he said if you even look at another woman with desire, then cut out your eye because it's better to "lose one of your members than to have your whole body go to hell".
Lust > Cheat > Hell. Pretty straightforward. There were other things He directly condemned, like divorce. Yet He was most clear on His biggest pet peeve: excess wealth.
Yet those are three things that today's rightwing Christian doesn't care about.
Massive greed? That's called "prosperity gospel" now. The parable of Lazarus? They root for the rich guy in hell.
Divorce? Adultery? Child Molestation? whoopsey-daisies. No big whoop.
But gays and abortions? That's where they burst arteries! Two issues Jesus said NOTHING about. Both of those things existed during His time. If they are the epitome of evil, you'd think they'd at least warrant a mention. But nothing.
So what about actual sins that are specifically mentioned and given no leeway at all in the Bible? Meh.
In fact, on Mike Huckabee's old cheesy talk show five years ago he featured Ashley Madison's CEO to tell "his side" of the story. Yes, Mike disagreed with what Ashley Madison was doing but then added "I could be wrong".
Seriously, go to 11: 43 of this video. That's what he said:
There is no ambiguity in the Bible about adultery. And yet, while the Bible says nothing about abortion, here is Huckabee defending Paraguay's awful decision to force an 11-year old raped by her stepfather to bear a child. Here is a man who said he would not be against using federal troops to stop women from getting abortions! Here is a man calling for mass arrests over gay marriage. This is the same guy who convulsed with anger over gays being allowed to be happy.
In fact, Santorum, Huckabee, Cruz, et. al have said nothing about the AshleyMadison scandal or a word of condemnation to their millions of subscribers. Maybe they are worried about alienating some supporters, but that means their virulent rants on nonissues become even more meaningless. It's almost like they are full of something....
Clearly there is no righteous, religious hate espoused for those who abuse or leave their marriages like there is for those who are in stable, homosexual relationships. Despite what the Bible says, these guys SWEAR to me that they know exactly who Jesus hates.
And I find it absolutely amazing that it always happens to coincide with their preconceived prejudices. Go figure.
I'll bet if Jesus said to love their enemies, they'd find a way around it. (Oh wait...)
So you will have to excuse me when I roll my eyes over your next meltdown. Where is the indignant condemnation now?
Where is your moral outrage against these sinners?
You'll rally like crazy against things not even in the Bible, but ignore and stay silent about AshleyMadison.
I guess it's hard to condemn something that you probably have an account with.

(1,965 posts)At following mostly only the biblcal edicts that suit them in the moment, while expecting everyone else to follow them all.
An example would be the railing and whining they do against same sex relationships, citing Levitcus, and it is ONLY in Levitus, while munching a ham sandwich and wearing blended frabrics that are also prohibited by Levitcus.

(25 posts)is becoming their core tenet for practical ideology. That man does not worship profit.
That's what I see as the modern conservative, neo-fascist take on Christianity.
This Ashley Madison scam generated huge profits. Also huge tax cheating worldwide.
20,269,675 paying male customers. They checked for messages and had to pay to get messages. If the average duration of account activity is a year that gives total revenue over the AM site lifetime at (20 million times $19 a month times 12 months) = $5 billion.
That's a good year for Bernie Madoff's old scheme. Galt Gulch Capitalism at its high trumpish best. (Trump made his big money from being connected with NJ's sleazeballs and getting the first gambling license in Atlantic City. Long time partner with S&A Construction, a mob operation.)
1,492 female accounts that ever, even once checked for messages over the lifetime of the AM web site. That's 1,492 of the total of 5,5550,687 "female" tagged accounts. One can assume that some women were browsers only -- that the total for browsers+fakes = (5,550,687 - 1,492) = 5,549,295.
Full article at Gizmodo.
Scam these stupid men for $5,000,000,000. Get away with it. Make pay-offs to Canadian conservative pols to assure protection. How could anything be more Christian? And as to Pope Francis, he don't get no cut.

The god of Capitalism coexists with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob!
If you are economically successful it must follow that you have been blessed by God!
Is it any wonder that a high percentage of these guys have serious personality disorders!

(3,284 posts)RW xtians are not hard-headed.
Effectively, they do not have heads to be hit upon.
It's the way they have structured themselves to function in life.
Literally, an INTENTIONAL, programmed, lack of thought-process.
Best defense there is against hated realities.
Fascists everywhere have depended on it for decades.
Gotta' go with what works.

(18,186 posts)don't agree with a word of what Jesus says. Notice how they quote Paul and Deuteronomy and not he who is "the way, the truth, and the light."
My sister was talking about this yesterday: "They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me"
Also, many of your die-hard fundies have been divorced. But they are forgiven.
I can tell you this, if Jesus ever shows up in Tennessee, the populace will stone him to death for being too dark-skinned --if the cops don't throw him in jail first.

Condemning other people while ignoring your own Moat...in other words, religion is interpreted as needed for each individual cause.
I know there are good people out there who think they are good because of their faith, but it's not true. They are good people because they want to be good, just like most atheists do.
Oh, and that sin thing? All they have to do is ask for forgiveness, and it's all AOK.

(2,169 posts)Yeah, it's a sin, but you know, we're guys!. So to atone for our sins we will double down on the other sinners (gays, abortionists, non-Christians, ...) with zero tolerance. You know, cause we're just being guys. God gets it, cause, well, he's one of us guys.

(11,945 posts)Cheating on your wife is no threat to patriarchy. But women having sex without consequence is a threat to patriarchy. So, too, are men loving men and women loving women, because patriarchy requires men owning/controlling women and women being subservient to men.
And that stepfather who impregnated his 10-year-old step daughter? He's the ultimate patriarch. To allow that girl to get an abortion would be an insult to the man's sperm.
But patriarchy aside, men who have sex with children or who are serial rapists should be candidates for castration. They've earned it.

(25 posts)female accounts. Faked profiles. Faked everything. A very few live, real female users.
There's a full analysis of the data dump at GIZMODO.
That's a huge amount of money. A world class scam. So far they are getting away with it. Also they are getting away with not paying taxes on their loot.
20,269,675 active checked-for-messages male accounts. But only 1,492 active female accounts including test accounts. That's all the "female" accounts that checked for messages even once.
Fewer than 1 "live" female accounts for every 10,000 "live" male accounts.
A sample of male accounts has activity running over one year. If you do the arithmetic for 20 million male accounts over the lifetime of the site, that gets about $5 billion taken in worldwide.
ALM paid taxes on tens of millions, not the full income generated by this activity.
Cheat on taxes ????? That makes you a RW Hero. A Romney. No wonder Huckabee sucks up to the CEO.
No wonder the RW trolls are directed away from the AM story. It's capitalism at its worst.

(930 posts)have never done. It's all about feeling morally superior by coming together with other like minded simpletons to condemn people not like themselves.
The foundation of RW Christianity is anything but morality. It's about making those who are foolish enough to believe in Invisible Sky Beings feel good about themselves and the choices they have already made in their lives in exchange for cold hard cash.

IMHO: The problems of Sodom and Gomorrah were that the city officials were doing nothing about sexual assaults because they were the leaders of the rape culture, themselves. Years of abuse leads to anger and the display of repeated behavior that becomes accepted.
If ever a National Guard was needed, it would have been needed then. Seems like the Christians would join Democrats who want to put a stop to a, Culture of Rape, that the GOP finds acceptable.
So it is very reasonable to say that RW radical fundamentalist, are a part of a culture of rape, now, as they were back then.

(12,151 posts)... not what they DO. Over and over again, hatred expressed as religious piety is just cover for plain cultural bigotry.
It's a general conservative principle, and the philosophy behind any kind of identity politics.
"We need more _____ people and less _____ people" is just bad human psychological wiring, but it winds people up emotionally.
If we'd focus more on what people do, instead of making assumptions based on their immutable characteristics, we'd solve a lot of problems at once.
We need more people who think, and fewer people who fear.
