If employers can fire a woman for being too attractive that only opens up a precedent that would allow an employer to fire a woman for being too frumpy or too ugly. That is why this case is important.

(14,881 posts)because they simply don't hire them to begin with. We are the last ones hired, which makes it easy to use lifo to unload us during down times.
On the other hand, maybe it's not so much a matter of a woman looking "too hot" as acting like a dog in heat. I remember the utter embarrassment of being in a meeting with a colleague when the 30 year old wannabe designer intruded and took over. Her low cut, tight little tee didn't quite meet the top of her mini-mini skirt, giving us both a glimpse of her naval ring. She practically humped my colleague's leg, while she ran one of her feet up and down her other calf.
There are few times in my life when I have been so mortified by somebody's behavior. I worked so fucking hard for any opportunity to get out of the admin slot. I was the first woman in the $6+B services organization at Digital Equipment Corp. to break through that ceiling. Oh, they hired women directly into professional positions, but if you entered that organization as an admin, you were trapped in that slot for good...until I broke through.
And some 15 years later, this was what I faced at the little failed startup.
