(115,947 posts)During the Vietnam war protests the conservatives were mostly blue-collar white men; they were the ones who were beating up the hippies, who were mostly middle-class white college students. The really rich kids didn't get involved at all because they knew they could avoid the draft in various ways, kind of like Bush did, so Vietnam was no skin off their butts. They weren't beating anybody up; they didn't have to. They were just hanging out and getting drunk at their frat houses.

(44,130 posts)Veterans, those who fought and died and those who fought and lived, to defeat Hitler and fascism?
Sure seems like these upstanding Americans are pissing all over those who fought and died, to protect us from the likes of the fascist Trump.
Seems mighty un-American, I'd say.

(65,616 posts)Then again how many of them know anything about WWII (besides we beat the bad guys) is debatable. I know that sounds absurd, but we are talking about republicans that only operate on emotion.

(49,064 posts)TheRump-lickers think "political correctness" is Liberal fascism because it prevents them from being vulgar and misogynistic and racist (which they don't recognize as misogyny and racism). They see themselves as heroes defending 'real' American freedoms, and "in the know", more informed than ignorant socialists, libruhls, and commies.
It's a warped view, but it is hermetic (sealed in) because Right-Wing Authoritarian followers do not seek contradictory info and ignore it when they stumble on it. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=7680127

(46,369 posts)For the most part, the protestors against Trump have been peaceful, it's the Trump goons that are the rioters.
(And no, I'm not excusing the Ohio National Guard either.)
Like that old racist jackass who sucker-punched a Trump protestor who was being peaceful.
Trump is getting the support of the Nixonian "silent majority," the low-class jerks who will resort to fists, knives, clubs and guns.
They want to "Make America great again," that is, back to the good old days when white men ruled the roost, "the little woman" and them non-uppity n****** "knew their place."
When punks could beat up "dem queers" with impunity.
When calling someone a "communist" could ruin their lives.

Tiny minorities that made a big stink to look bigger than they actually are.
Last year this (as Trump would say it,) "YUUUUGGGEEE" rally was promoted like hell, of "ex-gays."
About 7 or 8 showed up.
Don't forget the infamous photo from here of the "pro-war majority."

(19 posts)No, there were no riots at Kent State on May 4, 1970. There had been disturbances downtown over the weekend, mainly when the local police closed the bars, and a wooden ROTC building was burned, but on May 4 there was a large demonstration, met by a National Guard that had been urged to "get tough." I say this as someone who grew up in Kent, Ohio, and who was a high school student at the university lab school then. As my mother said at the time, "I was in San Francisco on V-J Day. I know what a riot looks like, and that was no riot."

This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio!
Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are cutting us down.
What if you knew her, and found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?
Donald Trump is a despicable human being. He shows every indication of wanting to usher in a fascist era in this nation, and must, must, must be opposed at every step by anyone with a conscience.
HOW CAN YOU RUN WHEN YOU KNOW??????????????????????????

(15,882 posts)"visual" isn't what caused the the pain. It was from the fascists who decided their bullets were more important than our right to protest.
Better would be to acknowledge it and keep it from happening again. Else the real estate swindler might fool someone.

Talk about jerking me full-fledged into the small but vocal--and I think, thanks to teabaggers, growing--group of liberals who stand profoundly against while being constantly astounded by the whole right-wing rot threatening to overtake the country, just as it has the government of Brownbackistan.
Sadly, although the Kochs and their ilk realize what their philosophies will do, the people who vote republican do not. They should look at Kansas!!!!
