One of Grant Countys newest deputies is awaiting trial on felony charges.
On March 1, Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer deputized Roy Peterson, who was set to begin trial March 28 in Grant County Circuit Court on theft charges stemming from the acquisition of equipment for a fire district. However, state prosecutors requested a continuance for a family emergency, and the trial is now scheduled to begin Aug. 22.
The states attorney, Senior Assistant Attorney General Daniel P. Wendel, mentioned that Peterson had been deputized at a pretrial conference March 24. Wendel said he wanted an order prohibiting Peterson from arriving to court with a firearm or in uniform ...

Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer, the subject of a criminal investigation for his association with the militants who staged an armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, has reportedly condoned a YouTube attack on the wife of a reporter.
The reporter, Les Zaitz of the Oregonian, has consistently led the pack in reporting on the situation in Eastern Oregon.
He was the first to report that Sheriff Palmer had met with members of the militia while they were occupying the refuge and that Palmer had come under investigation for his actions ...

... there had been warning signs .. before .. Malheur ... Why exactly had Sheriff Palmer, in the summer and fall of 2015, hired over 70 special deputies to serve as adjuncts to his regular force?
