John Boehner backs Donald Trump, thanks God Cruz didn't win
Las Vegas (CNN)John Boehner supports Donald Trump -- just not any of his policies.
"Donald Trump is the nominee, whether people like it or not," the former House speaker, during a question-and-answer session at a hedge fund conference in Las Vegas, told attendees Thursday. Boehner, an Ohio Republican, made clear he would support the nominee.
But that doesn¹t mean Boehner supports what Trump is pitching on the campaign trail. Asked, rapid fire, whether he supported Trump's proposed temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S., his proposal to build a wall on the border of Mexico and the New York billionaire¹s plan to aggressively use tariffs to attack foreign trade competitors, Boehner repeatedly answered with one word: "No."
He also said Trump¹s foreign policy stance, laid out in a speech two weeks ago, didn't align with his views. Still, Boehner said, "Anybody who doesn't think Donald Trump can win, just watch."

For the record, only extreme evangelicals high-five each other when someone says "God told me to run for President." Although in this case, Cruz didn't completely win them over, because he's pretty much a head louse walking erect.
Nope, your average run-of-the-mill Christian hears a guy like Cruz make that kind of statement and does an immediate face-palm.
How Ted Cruz Lost the Evangelical Vote
And how it could spell disaster for his campaign on Super Tuesday.

According to Lydia Bean, author of The Politics of Evangelical Identity, the campaigns first mistake was imagining evangelicals as a unified bloc during primary season. I dont think its particularly unusual or significant that evangelicals arent uniting, Bean says. I think what this shows is that evangelicals are fractured in general. Bean points out that evangelicals differ not only in their politicswith some identifying as more conservative and others as more moderatebut in their religiosity.
Evangelicals who dont go to church very much but identify as Christian, with Christian nationalistic rhetoric, but arent very well formed or advised by Christian community leaderstheyre going for Trump, Bean says. I think Ted Cruz is picking up the older, more observant people who are theologically and politically conservative, the people who actually go to church every week. Rubio, meanwhile, is picking up the younger, more cosmopolitan evangelicals, the Reformocon people.
In other words, while evangelicals tend to vote as a solid Republican bloc in general elections, there are (as with any religious group) distinctions within their ranks. And while Cruz might have shaped his message to appeal to a particular subset of evangelicals, that portion simply hasnt shown itself to be large enough to deliver on Cruzs hopes for an evangelical blowout.
