Fisher, world-famous for playing Princess Leia in the blockbuster franchise, was rushed to a local hospital after suffering full cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Her condition, sources said, was "not good."

The Los Angeles Fire Department was contacted about just after noon right before United flight 935 landed, and she was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, sources said.

It reportedly happened 15 minutes before the plane landed and an EMT on board administered CPR.

“At 12:11 pm the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from LAX for a patient that was in cardiac arrest," Erik Scott, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, told USA TODAY. "Firefighter paramedics provided advanced life support and aggressively treated the patient whom was transported to a local hospital.”

last week and didn't look well, at all.

Cardiac arrest outside a hospital generally provides a poor prognosis unless there was a defibrillator on the plane. It doesn't sound like there was, although there was a doctor and at least one nurse.

I hope she recovers fully, but she'll probably need a lot of time to do so.

2016 continues to suck.

and self medicated with every drug she could find for years until she hit bottom and got diagnosed.

"Postcards from the Edge" was her first book and contains the inner dialogue of an addict. That chapter should be required reading for anyone dealing with an alcoholic or addict in their lives, it's harrowing. The movie was a yawn. The book had its moments.

which are on the way to the coronary arteries.

For a while, there were automatic defibrillators on long flights. I don't know what happened to that policy, it was a good one. The quicker you can get electricity to a person in cardiac arrest, the better the prognosis.

But it still can cause a heart attack if bad enough. Having a relative (in this case her mother) who had DVT, as well as being female, and overweight, coupled with the long flight immobility really raises the odds. Made worse if you have alcohol or sleeping tablets, the former making you dehydrated; both increasing your immobility.
