Who was in Situation Room for the failed raid in Yemen?

Was Mike Pence in charge?

We have read that both Trump and General Mattis were not there during the operation. Was the operation run by Bannon, Flynn, Kushner, and Mike Pence?

It seems they are trying to keep Pence's fingerprints off the failed raid?

Sheesh - let's hope not - who needs people in DC running a special op raid in Yemen? jmg257 Feb 2017 #7
Not running it, but aborting it when it becomes clear Blue_true Feb 2017 #15

since the raid was such a horrendous failure.

I'm sure they had planned to air it ad infinitum if it had gone well.

No matter who was in the situation room, it was Trump as President who is responsible for what happened. We have to keep that in focus.

Compare this situation with President Obama during the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden, or the stories about Abraham Lincoln at the telegraph office for hours getting fresh intel on Union and Confederate troop movements. Here we don't know who was there, but we know that neither the President nor the Secretary of Defense were there.

Tactical ops such as this should not be "run" from the White House, nor anywhere else in Wash, D.C.

They should be run at the Theatre level at most, and preferably much lower.

You can bet that if the Seals had inflight intelligence that Bin Laden had 100 terrorist protecting him all of a sudden, President Obama would aborted the raid in flight to save American lives. Trump is going to get troops in situations where they are vastly outgunned and will get them slaughtered. BTW, lower level commanders won't abort a raid unless they know they have higher up approval to make that call if they see it is needed. If Obama had done the Yemen raid, republicans would be writing up articles of impeachment now.

I don't think that President Obama was "running" the operation that killed Bin Laden, nor did her run the drone strike that took out Awlaki and his son. He did know about them though. He gave the authorization. As we saw in the photos from the Bin Laden raid, both he and Secretary Clinton were both very involved in following the situation.

I don't think that we have operations being planned and run out of the White House, but when we have these kind of situations where we aren't even supposed to be in country, some one in Washington DC most likely knows about it.

This is the problem brought about by the current reporting. As others have posited, if the raid had gone perfectly and resulted in accomplishing the objectives with no casualties or loss, the very administration would be splashing it everywhere. They initially came out and said it was a "big success", but then more information and differing accounts started to emerge and all of a sudden we don't know who was really there and people are trying to back away from it.

If Trump really had leadership skills, he would at least come out and say something like, "It was a tough decision. There were high priority targets. We didn't have all the detail we needed, but I had to make the call. The decision and the loss of one of our soldiers will weigh heavily upon me." That would at least show some humanity.
