As the press secretary for a president who's obsessed with how things play on cable TV, Sean Spicers real audience during his daily televised press briefings has always been an audience of one.
And the devastating Saturday Night Live caricature of Spicer that aired over the weekend in which a belligerent Spicer was spoofed by a gum-chomping, super soaker-wielding Melissa McCarthy in drag did not go over well internally at a White House in which looks matter.
More than being lampooned as a press secretary who makes up facts, it was Spicers portrayal by a woman that was most problematic in the presidents eyes, according to sources close to him. And the unflattering send-up by a female comedian was not considered helpful for Spicers longevity in the grueling, high-profile job in which he has struggled to strike the right balance between representing an administration that considers the media the "opposition party," and developing a functional relationship with the press.
"Trump doesn't like his people to look weak," added a top Trump donor.
Trumps uncharacteristic Twitter silence over the weekend about the Saturday Night Live sketch was seen internally as a sign of how uncomfortable it made the White House feel. Sources said the caricature of Spicer by McCarthy struck a nerve and was upsetting to the press secretary and to his allies, who immediately saw how damaging it could be in Trump world.

(16,646 posts)I never thought of this as being "in drag". Cross dressing is what I would have called it.

(22,165 posts)WTF? "His" people look like weak buffoons ... they all seem to be channeling the old Jon Lovitz character from SNL: "that's the ticket"
That sure as hell doesn't convey strength.

(1,089 posts)ever just take a step back and consider the actual words being written in these articles?
I do that more than I ever have with this fucking idiot in the White House. Just consider these words:
The President of the Freaking United States is 'upset' that a woman lampooned one of his minions. It 'struck a nerve' that a woman did this to one of his sycophants. Not that said sycophant was absolutely begging to be lampooned. Not that the moron did this to himself and deserved to be lampooned. Nope - it's that a woman did it.
Ho. Lee. Fuck. This is the President of the United States. He honestly cannot handle a woman making fun of him. THAT is too much for his tiny little penis to handle.
It's thoughts like these that take my breath away and, at least these days, keep me up at night waiting for the sky to turn orange at 2 a.m. because President Moron got upset at a fucking TV show.
It's chilling.
