DeVos conceded she expects a return on her donations.

It seems to have paid off for her.

In a 1997 op-ed she wrote for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, Betsy DeVos was brutally candid about her views on money in politics: "My family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican party….I have decided, however, to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now, I simply concede the point. We expect to foster a conservative governing philosophy consisting of limited government and respect for traditional American virtues. We expect a return on our investment

It's been wonderful teaching during the Tea Party reign. For some reason, teachers are the bane of society's existence and don't deserve anything.

Let me thank you for a thankless job that barely pays enough to survive.

People like DeVos and rump deserve to make minimum wage making coffee, that is what they are qualified to do and in a sane country that is how far up the ladder people like that would be.

But our system of capitalism rewards the ugly, thieving, rat fuck assholes like them.

High school English teacher. The good news is that I have been teaching for 26 years, so I make a pretty good wage (though not near as much as the discipline my master's is in would get me).

Worse, I teach in Wisconsin, so Walker drummed up a lot of hate for us. I know there are plenty of people out there that think like you, but there are days when that is easy to forget. Today's appointment being one of them.

One of which Goblinmonger touched on well.

Most people have contact with teachers on a regular basis. There are good teachers, bad teachers, and mediocre teachers. The school system is a bureaucracy which can be difficult to navigate and teachers are the point of contact. Many people see teachers as part of the problem with school because they only see the surface.

Teachers and unions are demonized as money hungry and lazy:

For decades (actually since the beginning of the Labor movement) the rich and powerful have wanted to disband organized labor, and teacher's unions are still some of the largest. You always hear about the teacher who makes or retires making 100,000 per year, for something as easy as teaching kids for 6 hours a day with big blocks of vacation to boot. People don't understand all that teachers actually do and how much of themselves they give over to the job.

No contact with Wealthy people like DeVos:

To the average person, DeVos is not even a real person, just an idea to attain one day. They don't know that she did not earn any of the money she has. They do not know that she looks down on them. They do not understand that she is just investing in ideas that will enhance her own power and wealth. Wealthy is good in the United States. If you are wealthy, then you must be smart, or good, or lucky, or something positive otherwise you'd just be an average schmo.

Money makes the world go round and money will always protect money:

With few historical exceptions, people with money and/or power and a desire for money, will protect the wealthy. Republicans in power will always protect the powerful, for the reason stated above, and because they are in a position to be rewarded when they leave office. Even people who don't have money think that one day, one day they might have the money and power, so they certainly don't want to change the rules that will allow them to reign once their million dollar check comes through.

And, now that we have alternative facts, anybody will be able to be a teacher. It will be easy - no credentials or curriculum required, just spew out any shit you happen to personally believe, and give all students 100% on all tests. There won't be any wrong answers anymore.
