We are all now trapped in a Sleepy Hollow (1999) scene.
I keep seeing so many people shocked about Trump and what he's been doing. Today he trotted out Spicer to attack Nordstrom's for dropping Ivanaka's clothes, due to lack of sales in January. People are shocked to find out that Trump is trying to leverage the President of the United States to increase his brand. Others are shocked at the signs of text-book authoritarianism Trump is performing. Others, still, stare in wonder at Trump's ignorance such as calling his NSA adviser about economic issues at 3 AM, unaware that a security wonk has no expertise on economics.
All I can think is: I and many other progressives and liberals have been saying this about Trump since 2015. I'm suddenly reminded of a scene in Sleepy Hollow (1999). Here's the original.
Ichabod Crane: It was a headless horseman.
Baltus Van Tassel: You must not excite yourself.
Ichabod Crane: But it was a headless horseman.
Baltus Van Tassel: Of course it was. That's why you're here.
Ichabod Crane: No, you must believe me. It was a horseman, a dead one. Headless.
Baltus Van Tassel: I know, I know.
Ichabod Crane: You don't know because you were not there. It's all true.
Baltus Van Tassel: Of course it is. I told you. Everyone told you.
Ichabod Crane: I... saw him.
This is what its now:
America: It was Trump.
Liberals: You must not excite yourself.
America: But it was Trump.
Liberals: Of course it was. That's why you're here.
America: No, you must believe me. It was Trump, an authoritarian. Ignorant.
Liberals: I know, I know.
America: You don't know because you were not there. It's all true.
Liberals: Of course it is. I told you. Everyone told you.
America: I... saw him.
