(115,899 posts)I wonder if PM Abe had a good time golfing with Pol Potbelly this afternoon - and if PP cheated, like he is said to do. http://gawker.com/a-brief-history-of-the-golf-cheating-accusations-agains-1774776293

(41,867 posts)Normally a Japanese would never call another Crazy in public, its too harsh. He might have thought it, but he would express that he was relieved to have been separated from the room.

(90,865 posts)I only know one slur in Japanese, from the mother of one of my University Of Hawai'i roommates. My roomie was in love with a local haole boy (i.e. ethnically white raised in Hawai'i) and her Nisei mom was really pissed off about that. Mom kept referring to him as "that hoitoboro haole" which my friend said meant more or less "white trash white." (He was actually nice, but not what mom wanted.)

(41,867 posts)なんてこと!あの人はクレイジーです. = Nante koto! Ano hito wa kureijīdesu. "What! That person is crazy." Though you know, A Japanese person would never say crazy, in public, its far too harsh.
Though honestly, I think his expression is 救済 = Kyūsai (Relief)

(41,867 posts)Yes the Japanese are very strict and disciplined but there are times all they have is their expression. He can not publicly say Trump is Crazy, or that he was uncomfortable with the situation there, but he can express it if need be, if he was very distressed. Japanese people like most are very passionate, they are not "Vulcans" who need to hide their expressions. They must be very polite, and follow the protocols set long ago by leaders of the past. But they are human and will show the expressions on their face, which will be read by every Japanese at home, and they will feel for him, most Assuredly.

So what is the deal with Dump's inability to shake someone's hand. It is overly-aggressive which he likely believes is impressive. Makes him look like a perv.

(14,178 posts)He was set to go down as the worst President in modern history.
After Dubya's term the GOP did everything they could to ignore him and pretend he never existed. Unbelievable to me at the time that he was never even allowed to attend the next couple of RNC conventions. What party does that?
But I don't think the RNC will ever be able to give the Don the same treatment. He will be forever a shit stain on their feet.

(985 posts)What's impressive about that episode to me isn't that Bush dodged the shoe, he didn't need to be Sugar Ray Leonard to do that, but how he was still grinning afterward. If that happened to Trump, he'd do some enraged babbling and would be talking and tweeting about it for weeks.
yuiyoshida
(41,867 posts)to get into a fight himself, he would send the Secret Service to deal with any shoe thrower, and if the guy was an American, he would probably make sure, he went to some federal Prison for a long long time, or maybe to Guantanamo and be tortured, not for information, but tortured for spite. I really could see him having some special goons, torturing some guy and having them video tape it for his pleasure later.

(41,867 posts)but never in public. Its too harsh, though he might say, he was relieved to have left the room, and let it stand at that. Most Japanese would accept it and fill in their own blanks.

(25,608 posts)Your posting of "san" brought memories from over 55 years ago. We were military. We had a nanny, we called her Terri-san. She taught us dancing. And my favorite song was "Chichipapa". My last remaining parent died a few months ago, I got emotional when we rummaged through our family belongings, many of them were from those enchanting years in Japan.

(25,687 posts)I watched a few news programs last night when they discussed the meeting and no one brought up The Handshake or The Abe Eyeroll. I had to demonstrate what the Trump handshake was to my husband and only then did he see it -- he was really upset by The Hand-patting so didn't notice anything else.
The way Trump hugged, grabbed and fondled Abe after he exited the car, then whispered sweet nothings into his ear, Trump really wants Abe to be his Valentine.

I was born in Japan, started life bilingual (English - Japanese) when I learned how to speak. I also worked as a Japanese - English translator for many years. Or, an alternative way of saying it would be:
Bikkuri shitana! Kare wa mattaku kichigai desu!
The Japanese word for crazy - Ki-chigai, literally means someone whose Qi or energy is not right.
