Albuquerque had a Vigil tonight to protest ICE being in town - ACLU says ICE ROADBLOCKS ARE ILLEGAL

a post from a very activist Albuquerque friend tonight: " Albuquerque has a lot of beautiful people who will not stand for the division of people into documented vs: undocumented. I learned these things tonight: It is ILLEGAL for ICE to have check points. If you witness this HERE OR ANYWHERE, call your local ACLU. They are looking to prosecute ICE for ILLEGAL CHECKPOINTS. The grabbing is happening. It is happening in homes, on the street, at jobs and courthouses. Lawyers are working hard to protect people. SCHOOLS (at least APS) are SAFE ZONES. Children are safe AT SCHOOL. Please call your City Councilor before Wednesday or come to the City Council meeting on Wed. Feb 22, 5PM to support the renewal of ABQ as a sanctuary city. We are on the RIGHT SIDE of history in this struggle. If we do not stand together, we will all fall. Love your brothers and sisters. WE are strong together and will not fail. " ...

ICE agent: ". . . were going to do whatever we want. . . ."
Immigration Enforcers, Unleashed By Trump, Can Finally ‘Do Our Jobs Again.’ Agents said they felt constrained under Obama. Now, under Trump, they think they hold the power.

ICE and Border Patrol agents anticipated they’d get more support under the new president, said Marielena Hincapié, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center.

Agents told immigrant rights advocates about “feeling really emboldened,” Hincapié said. “Like, ‘Wow, things could change, we’re going to do whatever we want, we agents will finally get to decide who gets deported and who doesn’t.’”

Today, “there is a clear ‘everything goes and everyone is a target’ culture in ICE,” said Greisa Martinez, advocacy director at the undocumented activist group United We Dream. “It’s the realization of the dreams of a lot of ICE agents that endorsed Trump.”
